First of all, to answer the question, I'll say the best inventions are the bow drill, fire piston, and flintknapping.
The worst is harder to nail down... I'll have to say agriculture.

    Second:

Now I mean no offense, but I wanted to address some of this because I think it typifies some of the contradictions I've seen on this thread. For one thing, I don't see how agriculture can be viable without slavery, and thereby war, religion, ID cards, fascism. The exact devices may vary from case to case, but religion and ID cards are perfectly good ways to enforce slavery. The same goes for animal husbandry, with more obvious ethical problems stemming from the welfare of the animals in question. Space rocketry was developed as a cover for weapons technology. That ought also to eliminate sattelites. I may not be the best qualified to tackle pharmies, but I suggest you talk to someone who's been diagnosed with some of these fucking mind contrr- I mean antidepressant medications. (Did you know that a side effect of many anti-psycotic meds is psycosis? I know someone who's gone to university for neuroscience. He says it's a voodoo science and they really have no fucking idea what they're doing.) I also suggest reading up on government mind control project MKULTRA. And I fail to see how capitalism and money fall into opposite categories.

Again, my point here is not to pick on you, (and I welcome you to come back and disect my own post) but to illustrate my point that many of the things people posted as "best" inventions would not be viable without those in the "worst" category. Also to contest the assumtion that technology is in any way neutral. Someone else said something to the effect that "the devil is in the application". I whole-heartedly disagree. What, exactly, are you doing with your computer to justify Indonesian women and children dying of leukemia? With your cell phone to justify millions of songbirds dead from cell-tower radiation, or the stupid motherfuckers who nearly kill me every time I cross the street for that matter? What about millions of tonnes of electronic waste? Hydro-elecric dams, and the extinction of the last great salmon runs? You cannot examine these pieces of thechnology in a vacuum, and judge whether they are "good" or "bad". Technology, I feel that these are not "tools in the box", as some say, but can only be understood as a whole; as a system. And like any other system, it serves the needs of some at the expense of others, in this case wild ecosystems, non-human animals, non-white male humans, and "non-civilized" commumities.

I already know some of you will be quick to call me a hipocrite for presenting an anarcho-primitivist argument on an online forum, but I feel this only underlines the problem of the ubiquity of modern technology. All other options are being systematically eliminated. I was born in Hamilton, Ontario. I challenge you to tell me how the hell I could have lived a sane, healthy sustainable life in that fucking place. To paraphrase ole Doc Sarvis, the wilderness used to offer humans a viable way of life, now it serves only as a thereputic refuge. And it's getting an awful lot harder to communicate with people without one of these infernal machines. Again technology is a structure that encompasses us, and defines the way we live and relate to each other, and I don't even think the elite have any more control over it. It is destroying everything that cannot be assimilated for human needs. And attempt at escape is illusory at worst, temorary at best, and inevitably leads to alienation. So untill civilization falls, I don't think the use of computers, printing presses, or getaway cars is in any way hippocritical.

Cheers. I could go on, but I see I have for some time already. I look forward to seeing what you all have to say.

The post should have stopped here.

Even the atom bomb has done some good things, it has led us to the discovery of nuclear power and has helped in giving us the push toward Cold Fusion power.

I might have to agree. Everyone seems to hate religion but that's not the problem, it's because people cannot agree. It appears in every issue, religion is simply an older, "classic" one.

Atheism is the outright defiance of a God, at least religions agree on God and compassion and love. Atheism is left to morality, which can be anything it wants really.
