As most of his fans and Beatle Peaople know, tomorrow, November 29th, is the four-year anniversary of George Harrison's death. So if you dig him, or the Beatles, or great music in general (or you just want to cheer me up) I invite you all to post George stories, pictures, lyrics, thoughts and whatnot. After the breakup of the Beatles, George released his grand masterpiece- All Things Must Pass- A rich exploration of both Human and Spiritual Love. In the midst of a beautiful barrage of acoustics, a nice full horn section, slide guitar galore stood the centerpiece of all of George's work- heartfelt lyrics. Wow...this is starting to sound more like a review than a tribute...so let me bring it down to a human level for a moment. I never liked God. I wasn't a fan. In fact, I don't think I really believed in God at all. And then coming home from the mall one day a friend popped in a solo-beatles mix CD. I heard "My Sweet Lord" and it affected me in a way no other song had in recent memory. The months leading up to that were pretty shitty. I was in a really bad place. The Beatles had started to lift my spirits a little, but when that song hit me I just remember feeling absolutely elated. So I started to get a few more George Harrison songs, then a few albums, then every album....then every video.....it really does go on rather pathetically for a while. I started reading up on Indian religion and music and adopted a sort of hybrid of Buddishm and Hindu as a structure of my beliefs, found out I REALLY love Ravi Shankar, went Vegetarian..... Needless to say, he's kind of had a huge effect on my life. So Needless to say I'm saddened by his death, but moreso I want to celebrate a life, because it was such an important one. I could go on and on (and believe me I do to my family) but I shan't. I just wanted to see George get some of the recognition he so richly deserves. ~Layla
what a sad day... i planned on wearing all black tomorrow...still will... george is my favourite beatle, he was all about the music when he was with the band. as you can tell on his anthology demos, and non-anthology demos, when compared to john and paul they were goofing off while he was chasing perfection.. he is severely underrated... i will tell as many people as i can tomorrow, to listen to george.
i recently finally got to see the concert for george, and i had forgotten had amazing he was...he was always my favorite beatle, but his music was just so good...i'll be sure to listen to "all things must pass", and download those videos tomorrow
