The future Is older than the past. The future is ancient. The past was newer even though it looks older. So the Sci-Fi dystopia of the phuture where everything will look shiny and new will in a sense be ancient history. We are all really very very old.
The future is always hiding in plain sight, nowhere to go actually, except to march ever onward, forever leaving the past behind the future invents the present moment, like a wave gently reborn again mid-ocean, while the past remains the reality of our nightmares and the future the repository of our dreams.
Past and future don't exist. Only the present exists so try to enjoy it, or at least be at peace with it.
The present can never be grasped. You cannot stop time and hold on to it. For me only the past and future really exist. The past exists as memories in my mind and in the way those experiences formed the structure of my brain. The future as something I create in the dream of who I want to become.
The problem with this is by the time your psyche realises the "present" it has already passed... So in essence, we are all living in the past.
Time is a means if measurement designed & solely maintained by humans. Therefore the past, present, & future are all just figments of our collective imagination & in reality are all happening essentially simultaneously. Edit: As an example I offer the concept of time dilation in which a person or persons traveling at the speed of light will experience but minutes or days passing whereas those left behind will experience months or even years. It is all happening simultaneously
these are all very interestingly true, or at least relatively. the past is closed in a sense, by having already happened. the future is wide open, even if, form time to time, it my not appear open very wide, but ultimately it is. as for "our" ancientness, well, individually, our awarenesess maybe, but as a species, humans are literally orders of magnitude younger then planets, suns or solar systems. distopias are a choice. we create tyrannies by thoughtless aggressiveness. we have the capacity, by logic in the service of consideration, to create paradises instead. (but we do need to stop destroying the environment that makes our existence possible in order to do so. that too however, is part of logic in the service of consideration)
i would make one edit to your future, i would leave out the "i" part. we all create together, what alone we experience. none of it is about individual personalities. neither our own, nor whatever might dwell in the universe of strangeness and the unknown. i will never understand why people confuse the universe with themselves, their species, or their planet. (it may be only within ourselves that we perceive, but it is in the universe that we live, not in ourselves or even our species)
