In a sense I would agree that raising awareness for africa is a positive move. Unfortunatly the worlds attention span for africa is extrememly short and it all too quickly fades from the medias mind. I just feel that the whole event shows the shallowness and patheticness of our society, that we need crappy pop concerts to bring our attention to the problems that africa faces it really shows us in a dim light. The one point i keep trying to make is that without the ending of corruption amongst the governments any moves made by the G8 will be rendered obsolete. Its like repairing a bike wheel, we can send aid and wipe debt and what have you but thats the equivalent of taping the bike wheel up, sooner or later the tape comes off. We need to full on replace the wheel. I would dearly love to see africa standing on its own two feet. I just think we're going the wrong way about it.
if it wasnt quite so well worded, i might rise to that, but, as it was said in an elequent fasion, i think ill just applaud.
See, now. That's better. In that case, I agree with you...Live Aid helped at first but the world forgot about Africa in the long run. It'll probably happen this time, but without debt on Africa's shoulders, don't you think that the good politicians (wow, what an oxymoron) can start to change the whole continent for the better? I know aid (in the sense of sending money to help Africa) will not help one bit. I hate saying it, but I sincerely believe that Africa's problems are settled deep into their culture. The only way anybody can change Africa is if they change the culture. That's only my opinion, though. Eh, you changed my mind. Somewhat. Good job. You sound a lot smarter when you don't use insults, you know.
