They do. Zero-drop, too, by the look of it! Come on, get on the case, New Balance or Inov8, and crank out a completely up-to-date take on these!

Duh! You can expand an empire on them. They're awesome.

I should have spoken in the past sense as empires are not expanded through marching soldiers anymore. Also: emperors don't march, they ride horses (in the case of Putin maybe a bear) :p

They are, if you're prepared to wax metaphorical! (And who wouldn't wish to do that, when thronged by pro-ancient infantry-type plait-topped sandal forum acquaintances?).

Opting to go 'bearfoot,' so-to-speak! Geddit? Eh? Eh?!

Yeah but do they compare to a well calloused soul/sole?

He doesn't even go barefoot when he's in the sea:

To paraphrase Cees Nooteboom: "a well-calloused soul is a harbinger of bliss. A well-calloused sole, on the other hand, is a harbinger of what-has-been-seen-cannot-be-unseen ill-will."

You'd want good thick stockings on under those Roman caligae in the Russian winter.

And by the same token, light, Russian-style foot-cloths under them, if you found yourself ensconced for the winter in Piedmont, or up in the hills around Florence.

I have camped in those very hills around Florence, but not in winter. In July it was very hot and humid.

I saw one of those the other day. Really surprised me, was right in my neighborhood.

Could have been a legitimate insulin needle, I did see it against a dumpster (which I put it in) as I threw out my own insulin needles. I should have a few of those just in case. But somehow I just don't think there's any type 1's around here who use anything but pens.

Can't quite put a handle on the second part of the paraphrase unless it refers to being stepped on?
