Watched Twilight Zone marathon over weekend. Rod Sterling, never came up with a good answer.

Makes me think back to hearing someone say; God will destroy man, before man destroys earth.

Watched the same thing. Thinking back, that was pretty advanced stuff for 1963-64 network TV.

Let's see, "modern man" is about 40,000 yrs old. Earth is what, 4.3 billion? I'm betting on the planet.

Back in the late '60s there was a "seer" with a pretty good track record on things happening around then. He wrote that about year 2000 there would be a 'change' in the actual conciousness of mankind. Of course, we hoped it would be for the positive.

Well, look what we got instead. In 1998, 'social media' began, and cell phones expanded. Yep, that's changed the very 'conciousness' of humanity.

Fill in your own of the other negative influences since 2000.

The maddening thing for me, as it has been for many deeper thinkers than myself, is the 3 pound human brain which houses the human mind.

It can be both sublime and awe-inspiring with its creation of astounding works of engineering and construction and beauty and the subtlety of works of art and literature able to communicate emotions and knowledge with others, but then, ...........

It can also be such a vile, petty, shallow, toad-like creature, bent only on its own survival and greed.

Of course, there've been a thousand "explanations", usually as the basis of a religious tradition, that there's more than the physical world. But hell, we don't know, do we?

I suppose the best we can do is hope there's actually a meaning behind it all. But for now, it beats me. Maybe we'll find out, as Leonard Cohen wrote, 'behind the curtain".

Probably related to my last is this I heard years ago:

'When I works, I works hard.
When I sits, I sits loose.
When I thinks, I falls asleep.'

Yes at the time I was a young lad, and probably thought' it was real. Now I find it amusing. Tells you how little there is to watch. For nearly $100 a month cable bill.

So true. I see so many people who don't even work, and are better off than me. Living on social security pension, work all my life and barely get by.

We don't only have to worry about some nut launching nuclear missiles. But there is nuclear waste, stored who knows where.

    Vermonstah,
Have to agree . I have joked, what would these kids do without their cell phones, and the internet. They would go crazy, not only kids, but older people too.

And we are here to chronicle the insanity for posterity!

Perhaps a future generation or whatever sentient beings inhabit the planet next can learn a lesson or two from the failed experiment that is HUMANITY.

Yes the Roman Empire led to wars, plagues, pollution and the extinction of some animals in certain parts of the world, though on a much smaller scale than today. But the lessons are there for us to ignore.
