yeah i actually have that too now. why is it so bad if someone does something you don't understand. don't judge, unless you see beings get hurt
Very good book and i would recommend it to anyone. As some people may have said, it changed my point of view of life altogether with living in the now and really the whole thing about letting go of social ties that bound us.
I'm only on the third chapter so far.. I'm having some trouble understanding some of it so far, but I guess my reading comprehension just isn't that good.
that would be how i would describe it... heh. probably my favorite book of all time. it's wonderfullllllll
I read this book when I was 17. It was the one that turned me on to reading and counter culture in general.
That's part of what makes the book so charming, IMO. Wolfe's trip isn't Kesey's, but neither is it that of the establishment. Wolfe dug was Kesey was doing, but he didn't follow blindly. Gotta appreciate that.
Definitely one of the most influential books I have ever read, suffice to say it's also one of my favorites. I can only imagine living in a time like that. Does anyone know if any of the Merry Pranksters are still alive? I know quite a few have passed, but I was thinking of making a documentary about the remaining Merry Pranksters.
Quite a few are still alive. Babbs and Mountain Girl and Wavy Gravy come to mind. Check out IntrepidTrips
And although he wasn't really an official Prankster, Owsley. He's still alive. And lots of folks in the scene, like Bob Weir and Phil Lesh.
it was a decent book and all but yeah I have to agree with this guy, especially the bolded bit. I do plan on reading it again some time but I'm not sure when that will be. maybe in a few weeks when the summer semester is over and I can not feel guilty for reading all day instead of writing my research paper... eh eh <_<
I've been looking for some books to buy, i'll have to put this one on my list. Apparently there is a movie being made for it in 2011.
it's amazing ive been reading it for awhile and haven't finished it yet, though i don't have much time to read lately but i love the style of writing, its so out there, just like the pranksters
