So, I believe that some of my internet addictions have been very good for me. Hipforums has made me lots of good friends and connections and my Wikipedia addiciton has flled me with a wealth of knowledge, while, as you know, I believe most of the social media and social network things (like facebook) are highly detrimental to our intelligence. I think this debate is worth listening to: http://podcast.cbc.ca/mp3/podcasts/qpodcast_20131023_28274.mp3 comments?
I never made a friend I met online. All my friends are people I met in real life. I did however gain a lot of knowledge from the internet and I wasted way too much time on it. Also made some money from it.
i think anything you read on wikipedia needs to be considered "knowledge," at least until you fact check it with another source.
I find Facebook way better than Hipforums. You get to talk and stay in touch with friends and family. If someone doesn't use it wisely, and posts stupid stuff and stupid pictures....then that's entirely their own fault. Hipforums is a forum full of strangers where we just went and post silly stuff (mostly). The two cannot even be compared, really. And I agree with I'minmyunderwear about Wikipedia. I use it for orienteering, but there are way better, and more reliable sources for knowledge, science and facts.
