I met one of the Shondells. Tommy James was going nowhere until a DJ in Pittsburgh named Bob Mack found a copy of Hanky Panky and started playing it. Then someone bootlegged copies to be sold in the area. Tommy found out but the original Shondells were long gone so he recruited the Raconteurs from Arnie Palmer's town of Latrobe. They played at the T bird lounge, which I remember as a "biker bar", and probably the teenage night club called the Red Rooster, The Rooster booked many high class acts from the era such as Ike and Tina Turner, Simon and Garfunkel, all the MoTown groups, etc. ...cover charge was a buck. I met one of the Shondels at a spaghetti diner in the basement of my parents' church...can't remember which one.
That's not good news... I don't agree with his position on lockdowns, but I don't wish illness on him.
Actually I was too busy drinking beer, chasing girls, having a good time, and evading the police to pay much attention.
Here's the T Bird Lounge where the 2nd incarnation of the Shondells came from. Where the action is!
