that too. it was gross. and i always noticed, when i used wax, that palmrolling would leave my hands dirty, even if i hadn't waxed in a while.... GROSS! no dirty hands this time around :)

It was always such a disappointment. You get your dreads all clean and fluffy and yay, then you spend ages faffing around waxing them, and afterwards you're just like...:( want to wash my hair again now. It's all wrong.

and the wax gets EVERYWHERE!!! i remember i couldn't wear white because the neck line in the back would just go grey. it was disgusting. i hated it.... well, probably had something to do with dying my hair black and switching to dark wax, too, but, yeah.... wish i hadn't have dyed my hair.... it was such a nice light brown color... sigh.... maybe i should bleach it. what do you think would happen if i did a home bleach job over REALLY old black dye, Amy? i think i should go to the salon!

let your hair grow out to natural :)

i know what ya mean tho they make it seem like youll never have dreads if u dont use theyre crap
    total scam
and i can imagine its gross
many years ago some woman told me i should wax my dreads
it didnt seem right but i thiought id try
i took a tiny tiny bit and put it in just the very end of a beard dresd.. the instsant it touched the dread and made a sticky grossmess i wanted to kick myuyself for it
for months i kept picking at it tryinmg to get it out
luckily i think thats 1 of the beard dreads that broke off
i hate losing dreads, even tiny peices..but was glad to loose that wax mistake
and keep in mind, i didnt apply it to the whole dread..i just touched the dread with a waxy finger
that was all..and that was way too much
such a tiny thing but the biggest mistake i ever made
listening to random strangers onb the street..wghat was i thinking?

Well...I also made the mistake of dying my hair black. Semi-permanent my arse. Bloody hell. All I can say is, a 3-monthly bleaching routine never made it lighter than bad seventies orange, and I had to just wait years for it to grow out.
Never again. I went to a salon (Toni&Guy)to see if they had some bleach that would help; they handled my hair like I had the plague, looked at me like I was insane, and if they could have physically kicked me out I think they would have.

Hope that helps :p If you bleach it, you will be stuck with (probably) orange hair, and a load of roots growing out and needing permanent maintenance. Maybe use some pretty dread wraps or beads as a general distraction?

id suggest trying to get a dye-remover,, i have no idea where you get them from, but you can get them. it might reduce the amount of black being left..

my friend jess tried to go from new black to blonde.. god knows how she did it, but her hair frazzled big time and about half of it fell off, and it ended up looking and feeling like straw. this might not happen to you, she bleached and dyed and bleached and dyed her hair umpteen million times a month, so her hairs pretty fecked anyway

inbetween dreads i went to the salon and they lift my black hair to a fairly decent golden blond color.... but it really doesn't suit me.... i'd just kinda like to get somewhere back to my natural shade....

While you're waiting for it to grow out, you could dye sections to a shade somewhere between your natural colour and black. Might help with the intermediate period?

i don't know if the lemon juice thing would help lighten it up? it actually doesn't really bother me THAT much, just when looking at pics of my old dreads.. they were such a nice color.... i've been thinking about maybe doing a test run on one or two :D
actually, before i ever dyed my hair, i had dreads and decided to test out a blond kit... i left it on my hair for like, 20 minutes, and i mean, my hair had NEVER had anything done to it. virgin strands... just dreads.... and it didn't even lighten it up very much! so, yeah.... there's a REALLY good colorist here though who i know would LOVE to work on my dreads.... maybe i should chase her down.
hahahaha! i like the way you describe the reaction of the stylists at the salon! i got pretty much the same treatment, "shame on you heathen brat, black dye is the devil!" LOL :)

There should be a warning on the packaging "For hardcore Goths only". Normal hair roots on black look way dumber than dark roots on blonde.

agreed! although, dreads disguise that somewhat... plus, my natural roots are darkish... i mean, you've seen my pics, it doesn't look THAT bad. i'm my own worst critic.

my ex was a bright orange ginge, always dyed his hair black, but he'd let his roots grow about 5 inches before he dyed it black again...
