Hi I'm Claire 22 from the UK. I orginally got dreads on October 20th 2005 I knew nothing about dreadlocks apart from the fact that I didn't want to conform to normal hairstyles. I wanted to be my own person. The "loctian" who did them for me in Manchester told me to slather my dreads daily in hair bonding glue AKA latex.

as you guessed it my dreads eventually turned to rubber leaving rubber on everything they touched (my back would be covered in latex after a bath or shower)I took them out January 2007. I had to comb them out because rubber was all over my clothes and every new set of bedding would soon be ruined by the rubber dreads I had.
I got them back a year later on Jan 19th 2008 the year that I had no dreads was the lowest point in my life now I got them back, I've never been happier

holy hell... good for you that you bounced back from the latex nightmare. I have never heard of that. Your locks are an inspiration. anyone who can bounce back from that...wow

Well no I didn't avoid a wax loctician. She used like half a tub of dreadhead HQ wax it was awful and made my face constantly greasy. Over a period of a few months I weaned my dreads away from wax. I just use a dread tool to keep loose hairs at bay.

Vermont, thanks for the kind words I think I've got a few pictures of my rubber dreads if I can dig them out, I'll post them

Thankyou! I'm so much happier with them now. I get my husband to do maintainence work on them once a fortnight. He's much better than any "loctician and doesnt charge me £50 for the privelege :)
