I started the dreading process two weeks ago in my 5 inch hair and even though I've washed my head once since then they have locked up sooo much. I had dreads last year, but I used dreadheadHQ products and they loosened too much before tightening.

I was just wondering how long it takes shorter hair to dread and get some length. I realize I should have waited until my hair is longer, but the whole dreading process is basically neglect so, why wait?

PS-I legitimately look like I have a bird's nest on top of my head(I sleep outside a lot.) I'll post pics in a few.

@mmg - I actually wish I had started mine a lot sooner. for some reason, I was under the impression that it would be better to start with longer hair. Longer hair tends to shrink more when it starts to knot up...

Yello, I am new to the Hip Forums and a new dreadee, my locs are three weeks old and I am learning and loving them.
They are in the arrgh stage right now and I have a lot of loose hair, but since I have no-one to help me with them and the idea of crocheting them myself seems daunting I am letting them be to do what they want.
I live in Eastern WA and I am a mum to a 22 month old tornado, I am originally from BC, Canada Wooo!
I miss home a bit eh?
I am not sure what else to say here, I am hoping to learn a lot from this forum.
for other info check the profile

    peace and smiles to all.
    :cheers2:

Started my dreads about nine months ago and I'm loving them so far! Been hanging around this place now for a couple of weeks and read some good advice/tips. Any comments/criticism is welcome!

Took these today at work with my phone so they kind of suck.

Howdydoodle! Im mike and i have 6 month old dreads woo! i have 69 of them and the bastards are pissing me off!... well no... i actually love them to bits but so many of them have snapped I've resorted to buying extensions and dreading them in! unfortunately I have had to chuck a load of elastic bands on them and my hair now looks like an explosion at a Crayola factory! so yeah hello xD :p oh wait yeah they were backcombed and i used wax and shit but due to laziness i stopped using wax (which may be considered a good thing lol)... but i still backcomb and use lock peppa, when i can be bothered. thanks mike x
