Hey, that might hep with finding a job, then. It's a pretty hip little bubble in the bible belt, and there's lots of Dreadies around there. So seeing your hair won't be quite the shock to a perspective employer that it might otherwise be! :)

    Greetings,
I'm about to have my real hair dreaded for the first, and hopefully only time. I usually make my own synth dreads and braid em in at the root, but it's not the same.
Im 37, female, got grey hair!! yep. Just waiting for my hairdresser to find the time to start the dread sections......yippee.
P.s this site has helped me enormously in making my choices. Thanks!

wouldnt suggesst havin a hairdresser do it, if u see other threadsabout that
going natural is the best way..backcombing second
at very least if u do go to a hairdresser, find out how she'll do it exactly, & insist on no wax!!!!

AND if she says the word "twist", run in the other direction.

What's wrong with twisting? Don't you have to twist the root at least? :&

you dont gotta do nothing..u can twist em & roll em ith em anuy way u wanna but u dont gotta donothin but stop combing..
what annies talkin bout ithinkis twisting the hair into a tight twisted mess then waxing it all into a clump..that ressembles dreads temporarily but will untwist when ya get the gunk out

as for twistin the roots i dunno what that would do at all since as soon as u twist em they'll untwist soon as u take off the pressure
u can i guess lake take your palm flat against your head & rub the roots to get em knotted a bit, but u shouldnt hafta..once the dreadsare gettin started they should tighten up towards the roots, but you'll always have a 1/2 inch or so near the roots that arent real tight..but thats good in case u get an itch & need to scratch underneath the dreads.but thats ony a prob withthe really thick ones

Salons will often twist the hair, use wax and call it dreading it. Twisting the hair does absolutely nothing. Dreadlocking is KNOTS in the hair...twisting does not KNOT the hair...it just makes them LOOK like locks. It really does nothing for the dreading process.

    Hi everyone,
I've posted a few questions here recently, and have all the info I need to get me going. I haven't introduced myself, I'm Shadow :D
I started going natural today! *soooo excited!* Used dreadhead hq shampoo, it's great! Im amazed, I was expecting really dry and really brittle hair, but its actually ok.
This is first time Ive EVER washed my hair without piling on the frizz controlling products........ it feels really light too. I'll be posting some pics, but not just yet as I don't have access to a scanner........
