    https://www.npr.org/2025/06/10/nx-s1-5428071/los-angeles-protests-national-guard-presidential-powers

    excerpt:

Newsom's office said the president exceeded his "Title 10 authority, not only because the takeover occurred without the consent or input of the Governor, as federal law requires, but also because it was unwarranted."

And further, Newsom's office said Trump's move is illegal because "the unrest in Los Angeles is nowhere close to rising to the level of a 'rebellion' beyond the capacity of local and state authorities to control, nor is it different in kind from other similar situations in recent years that were brought under control by local authorities with no need for military intervention."

Trump administration made a dictator claim that his taking control of the CA National Guard was non-reviewable by the courts.

The federal appeals court didn't agree with him on that claim.

As forum-goers say, Don't Feed The Trolls.

Enough of the voting public fed the trolls. They did it again in 2024 after the entity they voted for in 2016 had degraded mentally and had become even more irrational and authoritarian.

It's clear that Trump will take control of a state National Guard from a governor if he sees protests that aren't of his liking.

If it's his supporters rioting at the Capitol on his behalf to steal an election for him, Trump sits and does nothing.

The appeals court ruled that a general assigned by Hegseth is as good as going through the governor of CA.

That's stretching the imagination in favor of Trump.

The governor of a state is the governor, not a general assigned by the U.S. Secretary of Defense.

The ruling allows Trump to bypass the governor.

The ruling was made by a three-judge panel in CA. Two fo the judges are Trump appointees.

Newsom could appeal to a full-panel court or to the U.S. Supreme Court.

A question now is how long will Trump be able to legally keep 4,000 National Guard troops under his control in CA even if the situation calms down, which it has.

Trump took control over the CA National Guard by using an obscure statute “10 U.S.C. 12406” and declaring that a rebellion or threat of rebellion was occurring,

Based on the ruling of the three-judge panel, Trump could potentially maintain control of the CA National Guard throughout his second term by simply saying that a rebellion or threat of rebellion is ongoing.

The court ruling also gave Trump deference by saying his orders overrule a governor anyway.

It gives Trump wide latitutude for controlling a state's National Guard and bypassing the governor using an obscure statute and without invoking the Insurrection Act.

Golden escalator ride: the surreal day Trump kicked off his bid for president

    excerpt:

“This was the speech where Trump said the thing about Mexicans as rapists. And 40ft in front of him, behind all the cameras there is a guy from Mexico, almost certainly an undocumented immigrant, scooping ice cream for Trump banana splits, wearing a hat that says Trump ice cream on it,” Alter said.

Golden escalator ride: the surreal day Trump kicked off his bid for president

    excerpt:

Given everything that has happened in the past four years, it’s not a huge surprise to learn that the first words of Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign were a lie.

Four years ago, on 16 June 2015, after Trump had slowly descended a golden escalator to the basement of his eponymous New York tower, he clambered on to a makeshift stage and began his announcement speech.

“Wow. Woah. That is some group of people. Thousands!” Trump said, looking out towards a bank of TV cameras.

Except that’s not how people who were there remember it.

“There were a few dozen people lining the area leading down to the escalator, and then there were a couple dozen downstairs where the event actually took place,” said Alana Wise, who covered the campaign launch for Reuters news agency.

Trump gave money to the young people of various nationalities to give the appearance that he had a rainbow spectrum of supporters.

False claims about FEMA disaster funds and migrants pushed by Trump

    excerpt:

"Efforts to clarify the funding have done little to stymie a battery of claims about FEMA and migrants that have spanned from misleading and lacking context to entirely false. Some, like Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, falsely claimed on X that FEMA had used disaster funds to house migrants and that the government had “abandoned” hard hit areas. X owner Elon Musk, among Trump’s most vocal backers, reposted Jordan’s false claim and a variety of others about FEMA."

Trump made a public statement that the U.S. doesn't need to be spending $1 trillion per year on the military.

Trump proposes cutting $163bn in non-defense funds and boosting military

    excerpt:

"In contrast to the squeeze on discretionary social programmes, the administration is planning a 13% rise – to more than $1tn – in the Pentagon budget, a commitment at odds with Trump’s frequent vows to end the US’s involvement in “forever wars” in the Middle East and elsewhere."

Criminals can take advantage of Trump's tactic of using unmarked vehicles and unmarked agents to apprehend people.

The public doesn't know how to respond if it happens to them. It could be Trump's people or rogue criminals impersonating ICE. If they fight back against ICE, it can be used against them. If it's criminal impersonators, not fighting back could result in their own death.

Criminals love to take advantage of confusion and fear, two elements that Trump has sown in the public.

Spokesperson for DHS, Tricia McLaughlin, made a remark that tries to give that impression in response to outcries from Trump's followers that he's destroying their farm and hotel businesses. She said Trump will continue to get rid of the worst of the worst criminals.

An endless 3,000 people a day being arrested and all of them are supposedly the worst of the worst criminals. It might have gained some public support initially when he quickly deported a few hundred alleged gang members to El Salvador without due process before the courts could respond.

Trump has said little about general crime in the U.S. It's like the only criminals in his mind now are undocumented people.
