Trump wants to take over other people's territories and countries, deport people from the U.S., punish countries with tariffs, use the DOJ to prosecute people he doesn't like, persecute transgender people, pardon his rioters who attacked the seat of the federal government.

Yet his following talks like the biggest transgression is coastal elites criticizing him for his behavior.

Trump's first nomination for attorney general was Matt Gaetz.

Matt Gaetz ethics report says his drug use and sex with a minor violated state laws

    excerpt:

"Former Rep. Matt Gaetz, a Florida Republican who briefly stood to become President-elect Donald Trump's nominee to be attorney general, was found by congressional ethics investigators to have paid numerous women — including a 17-year-old girl — for sex, and to have purchased and used illegal drugs, including from his Capitol Hill office, according to a final draft of a comprehensive investigative report obtained by CBS News.

Those were among the findings of the long-running investigation by the House Ethics Committee into Gaetz, which concluded the former Florida congressman violated multiple state laws related to sexual misconduct while in office."

Fortunate for Matt Gaetz that he only got a face lift before the 2024 RNC convention and had a string of sex scandals involving minors. If he had pursued a gender change for himself, he would have been in a lot of trouble with the Republican party.

Trump continues to willingly hemorrhage whatever political capitol he had.

He still has about four weeks to go before taking office.

By stepping on rakes, Trump ruins his own ‘honeymoon’ phase

    excerpt:

"Throughout his first term, Trump had a habit of screwing up policy agreements with 11th-hour demands that didn’t make a lot of sense, and last week’s developments suggested that the president-elect learned very little from those experiences.

A stopgap spending bill was working its way through the legislative process on Capitol Hill, which generated very little interest from Mar-a-Lago — that is, until late Wednesday afternoon, when Trump published an item to his social media platform demanding that congressional Republicans add a debt ceiling increase to the bill. Failing to do so, Trump added, would be “a betrayal of our country.”

Roughly an hour and a half later, he published a follow-up piece, adding that any Republican who would be “so stupid” as to approve a spending bill without increasing the debt limit “should, and will, be Primaried.”

On Thursday, Trump echoed his demand. A day later, he did it again."

Daylight saving time in the United States - Wikipedia

    excerpt:

"As of 2024, federal law supports states that opt to switch between standard time and daylight saving time (from standard time to daylight saving time in the spring, then back to standard time in the fall), despite some unsuccessful efforts to do away with this practice. In 2022, the United States Senate passed the Sunshine Protection Act which would have permanently activated daylight saving time, but it did not become law, because it was not approved by the U.S. House of Representatives.[3]"

Someone said that Gaetz looks like the antagonist in a 1960's beach blanket bingo movie.

He has a “burn it all down”, mentality. One that’s going to cost money….one that will cost lives…..

The blur between fantasy and reality has gone too far in the U.S. and has infiltrated the White House.

The U.S. needs a circus clown-king who is voted into a fictitious, benign office every few years by the general public to quell a particular psychological need of the public. The elected 'official' can sit in a corner 24-7 and spout psychological masturbation fantasies that the public can enjoy if it wants (fantasies about taking over canals, territories, and countries, deporting disliked people, prosecuting innocent people).

The rest of the public can do the pragmatic work at hand of running the country with an elected real president who isn't in a fantasy world.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2024/12/23/us/politics/trump-greenland-panama-canal.html

    excerpt:

"Mr. Trump has often suggested that he does not always see the sovereignty of other nations’ borders as sacrosanct. When Russia invaded Ukraine, his first response was not a condemnation of the blatant land grab, but rather the observation that President Vladimir V. Putin’s move was an act of “genius.”

Even now, as Mr. Trump seeks a deal to end the war in Ukraine, he has never said that the country’s borders must be restored, a key demand of the United States and NATO — he has only promised a “deal” to end the fighting.

In the cases of Greenland and Panama, both commercial and national security interests are at play.

Mr. Trump’s desire for Greenland was made explicit in the first term, when a wealthy New York friend of his, Ronald S. Lauder, the New York cosmetics heir, put the idea in his head."

Trump apparently never mentioned Panama during his 2024 campaign.

After the election, one of his billionaire friends may have complained to him about the toll fees for the Panama Canal.

'Never mentioned it once!' Dem says Trump demand came after 'someone wrote him a check'

    excerpt:

As his fellow panelists chuckled at Rose's dig, he noted Trump did not mention the Panama Canal during the campaign.

"The guy never mentioned it once! So we all know how this business works, ok? Someone wrote him a check. Or Someone had a pivotal meeting with him and made him a promise for a future check if he acted on this issue. So it's going to be Panama Canal this week or next and then in the weeks thereafter it'll be another pet project of the billionaire class. This speaks to the actual truth of this second iteration of what the second iteration of the Trump presidency will be: not the populist hard core issues that he actually ran on, and that's what's so sad about all this."

I can't imagine serving one's country only to have the decry that you can no longer serve your country be met with cheers.

Trans military members are still military. Aren't these the same "people" who bitched for years about kneeling during the anthem being disrespectful to veterans?

Europe: you owe us for TWO world wars. Come liberate us from our oppression already!

'This is not what he ran on!' Trump blasted for veering wildly away from campaign promises

    excerpt:

"This is not what Donald Trump ran on," Rose said. "Donald Trump ran and won this presidential election largely by co-opting traditional Democratic talking points in and around fighting an elitist class that was both culturally estranged from working people and working against the economic interests of working people. He did not run on this notion that he was going to parade billionaires down to Mar-a-Lago in what is ultimately an escalator of transactional deals.

"So this speaks to potentially what the Trump administration will actually look like, which is traditional Republican politics of being there for the top 1 percent. That's not only a bad set of policies and agendas for working people in the United States of America, but it's also going to be very poor politics."

This is not what he spoke about, but it is how he is governing."

In light of the ethics investigation of Gaetz, debate renews regarding how he escaped federal prosecution and state of Florida prosecution.

Trump nominated Gaetz to be the attorney general, the highest law enforcement position in the country.

    https://www.politico.com/news/2024/12/23/matt-gaetz-ethics-report-doj-criminal-charges-00195955

    excerpt:

"Another former federal prosecutor, Robert Bittman, agreed that the department rarely brings sex-trafficking charges in cases of consensual sex between adults, even if money changed hands.

“It’s a crime, it’s a statute on the books that they can prosecute — but it’s not a high-priority thing,” he said. “It’s not something that’s often prosecuted, and really would only be prosecuted if there are significant, other aggravating factors.”

Federal prosecutors have also historically hesitated to bring cases that involve quid-pro-quos for sex that involve things other than an explicit payment.

The Justice Department concluded its investigation into Gaetz last year. A Justice Department spokesperson declined to comment."

The way Zelensky has been talking, it sounds like he thinks Trump will be able to stop the current fighting by temporarily conceding land Putin took away from Ukraine, giving Ukraine enough time to recover it's land by using formal diplomatic channels.

    It's a long shot.

Ukraine has never recovered Crimea that Putin stole from it in 2014. It's over ten years later. Putin never had any intention of returning it. Diplomatic channels were never able to recover it.

President-elect Musk wants a CT lawmaker expelled from Congress.

    https://www.cnn.com/2024/12/23/politics/president-musk-trump-analysis/index.html

    excerpt:

"Then there is the risk of ethical conflict between Musk’s domestic political activity and his international ventures. Last week, Rep. Rosa DeLauro, the top Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, wrote a letter to congressional leaders claiming Musk had worked to derail a provision in the original funding bill that would screen investments in China, suggesting he was protecting his Tesla plant in Shanghai. Musk responded to DeLauro’s criticism of his role in the government shutdown drama by calling for the Connecticut lawmaker to be expelled from Congress."
