Millennials are revealing how their parents are turning into awful people. Various causes have been proposed: The widespread use of social media rather than in-person relations (easier to insult at a distance and develop a mindset of it; ease of spreading truther narratives to blame other groups). The socially isolating effect of the Covid pandemic. Nine years of Trump and the divisive political and culture war atmosphere associated with him. What appaers to be a general degradation of the brain during aging (seen increasingly in Trump and some of his aged loyal associates like Giuliani, Eastman, Manafort, Flynn, and Lindell). The frustration with changes in the economy in the U.S. Fear of the presence and growth of particular demographic groups, even if minimal (The DeSantis phenomenon) Millennials Are Sharing How Their Boomer Parents Are Becoming Nastier With Age excerpt: 2. "My mother has gotten more and more childish as she ages. She's 73 now, and her emotional maturity clocks in at about a teenager. Has burned so many bridges with her children and friends. Feels entitled, lacks empathy, and is super judgmental (while saying she's not at all!). Sometimes I wonder if our parents are changing or if we all just grew up and are able to see that they were always this way." 3. "My dad has become less nice and sympathetic. Constantly going on about politics, racism, and hating on gay people. I don't think that way. When I'm in a dangerous situation as a woman, it's somehow always my fault. I love my dad dearly, but the older he gets, the worse he gets. It's just sad."

The voting public in the U.S. wants to go back to a long-lost era when Trump was president and promising them a return to a long-lost era. Even Judge Engoron in NY, who issued a $454 million loss to Trump for his E. Jean Carroll civil case in NY, said he was going to miss Trump after the trial was finished. It's difficult for some to detach themselves from Trump's charismatic but dangerous bluster and pathology. People seem to derive a thrill and nostalgia from it even though his behavior is highly destructive to democracy and to people's social and financial well-being. An example is Trump's rioters who literally wrecked their lives for him. Another is Trump's supporters putting their money in his sinking media platform fully confident that he's going to do something big with it later that will make them wealthy. People just can't let go of him.
Maine joins National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. Another 61 electoral votes worth of states to reach 270 are needed to enable the compact. Without disposing of the electoral college, the compact would assign electoral votes in presidential elections proportional to the popular vote. It would eliminate the winner-take-all approach currently used in nearly all of the 50 states. Maine joins compact to elect the president by popular vote but it won't come into play this November
Republicans are generally opposed to the compact. https://www.cnn.com/2019/03/19/politics/electoral-college-national-popular-vote/index.html
Trump stops at a Chic-Fil-A in Atlanta to mingle with African-Americans (few of whom are ever seen at his rallies). Donald Trump Stopped By an Atlanta Chick-fil-A and Got an Unexpected Message from Patrons and Staff excerpt: "Hanson believes this interaction could be indicative of a larger shift in the electorate come November. “That’s why I’m a little more confident because I think this is starting to look more like 2016 than 2020,” he said. “I think the left was surprised in 2016, so they prepared in 2020 and the right was surprised. And I think now they’re both on level ground and that’s going to help Trump.” He believes at least a portion of minority voters will support Republicans this election cycle. “I think a lot of the minority community is starting to follow the trends of the white working class, who got so tired of being lectured to by these bicoastal elites that they rebelled,” Hanson explained. “Everybody thought that would never happen with the Latino and Black [vote]… but I think we’re starting to see a lot of people say, ‘I want inexpensive rent. I want to end expensive insurance. I want to be able to afford food and gas.'”"

The Trump administration was the first to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Previous administration since the 1990's had place a hold on the recognition due to the volatile nature of it. Trump had an Iranian military official, Soleimani, assassinated in Iraq by using a drone to kill him just after he arrived in Iraq. It created an intense resentment. Israel did a similar move recently when it killed two Iranian generals. The current direct attack by Iran using drones and missiles on Israel appears to be a retaliation for the assassination by Israel. Trump has likened himself to Nelson Mandela and Jesus. https://www.cnbc.com/2024/04/06/trump-being-jailed-for-gag-order-violation-would-be-great-honor.html excerpt: "Donald Trump on Saturday said he welcomed the prospect of going to jail for violating a gag order in his upcoming New York hush money trial. "I will gladly become a Modern Day Nelson Mandela — It will be my GREAT HONOR," the former president wrote in a lengthy Truth Social post attacking New York State Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan, who is presiding over Trump's case. It was not the first time Trump has likened himself to a martyr as he faces a flurry of criminal charges. In an October rant against his various lawsuits, the presumptive Republican nominee also compared himself to Mandela, the former president of South Africa who spent 27 years in prison for his anti-apartheid activism. And last week, Trump took to Truth Social to share a message that likened his legal troubles to the persecution of Jesus Christ."
