The winner-take-all assignment of state electoral votes to the Presidential candidate who won the state's popular vote is the main source of the propensity for Presidential elections being won without winning the national popular vote. It's also a main reason why Presidential elections in the U.S. since the 80's have hinged highly on a small handful of swing states, such as Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Florida.

Examples of elections won without the national popular vote include the 2000 Gore vs. Bush and the 2016 Clinton vs. Trump elections.

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact provides a remedy without doing away with the electoral college and without the need for a Constitutional amendment. States have the right to assign their electoral votes in a manner of the choosing of their legislatures.

Connecticut To Give Its Electoral College Votes To National Popular Vote Victor

    excerpt:

"The compact requires its members to cast their Electoral College ballots for the presidential candidate who wins the national popular vote. The agreement goes into effect once states representing at least 270 electoral votes — the number needed for a candidate to win the presidency — signs the compact.

Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy (D) has promised to sign the legislation committing his state to the interstate agreement. Once he does so, the compact will have 172 electoral votes. California, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington and the District of Columbia have already signed the accord."

The following article and charts show how lopsided Presidential elections in the U.S. have become with most of the money and campaign events occurring in a small handful of states (usually the same ones from one election to the next) where the state popular vote margin is about 3% or less (entries printed in black in the chart below for the 2012 election).

Agreement Among the States to Elect the President by National Popular Vote

    excerpt:

"Because of these state winner-take-all statutes, presidential candidates have no reason to pay attention to the issues of concern to voters in states where the statewide outcome is a foregone conclusion. As shown on the map, two-thirds of the 2012 general-election campaign events (176 of 253) were in just 4 states (Ohio, Florida, Virginia, and Iowa). Thirty-eight states were ignored."

Trump has stated that he is supportive of Presidential elections determined by national popular vote. He would be expected of to be supportive of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.

Except he lies a lot (okay... always) and changes his views about every 8.3 seconds... So he can't be "expected" to do anything.

He pretended to be his own employee so he could kiss his own ass in a TV interview. Everyone knows and no one cares. Didn't they say Hillary was senile so vote Trump? What if she did that? Trump is not a mentally stable person. It's common today for any differing political opinions to be "mental disorders" but Trump has actual mental disorders going on.

If the Republican party had any respect for the Constitution they would impeached him long ago. As the majority of the goverment and if you ask them the only true Americans they have a duty they have failed in. They said Obama was not qualified to be president because he had "never had a real job". He was an elected offcial trying to run for a higher elected office. What does that say about the Republican mind when they respect a man with literally no experience in politics to hold the same job a few years latter? Especially when that man has made statements about taking guns and restricting other laws that Obama never even mentioned.

Easy. Israel is regarded as our best buddy in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia being second best. Iran, since the overhrow of the Shah, has been an adversary, engaged in sponsoring terrorism threatening to us, Israel and the Saudis. Israel already has nuclear weapons, and as the saying goes, possession is nine-tenths of the law.

    True.

Trump is the type of person who would be supportive of direct popular vote initially but later claim that he is against it after losing an election based on direct popular vote and would claim that 3 million illegal votes were cast for the opponent.

Trump's private fix-it man appears to have been involved in various political policy issues. Trump and Giuliani probably have a consistent, clear explanation.

Porn star's lawyer says Russian paid Trump attorney Cohen

    excerpts:

"WASHINGTON (AP) — Stormy Daniels' lawyer said Tuesday he has information showing that Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's longtime personal attorney, received $500,000 from a company associated with a Russian billionaire within months of paying hush money to Daniels, a porn star who claims she had an affair with Trump.

Lawyer Michael Avenatti also said hundreds of thousands of dollars streamed into Cohen's account from companies, including pharmaceutical giant Novartis, AT&T and Korea Aerospace, with U.S. government business interests. AT&T confirmed its connection Tuesday evening.

Larry Noble, senior director of the Campaign Legal Center, said there's nothing technically wrong with companies like Novartis and AT&T hiring people like Cohen to provide insight into the president's thinking. But he said the arrangement described by Avenatti "certainly doesn't look good."

"Why would you go to the president's private fixer?" he asked. "He's not known for policy and he's not in the administration. You're going to someone who can get you access and tell you about the person of the president. That's unusual.""

Iowa Woman Who Tried to Vote Twice for Trump Gets Probation

    excerpt:

"Rote, a Trump supporter, was arrested Oct. 21 after showing up at a Des Moines early voting site to cast a second ballot for Trump in the Nov. 8 election. She told police she believed Trump's claims that the election was rigged and she feared her first ballot would be changed to a vote for Hillary Clinton."

I disagree Okie. Iran has been in two wars: One against Russia in the 1800s and one against Iraq, when Saddam the Sunni was attacking and killing Shite people around the clock. As far as sponsor of terror, Iran in my view is only supporting Shite minorities in Yemen, and Bahrain, and Syria. These minories have been arrested, tortured, and killed by Saudis...America's best customer in the Middle East. Trump and Bolton want to help Saudi Arabia exterminate the Shia population in these nations.

That describes the Trump voter's mind-set as massaged by Alex Jones and Sean Hannity. Note they didn't want to believe Diebold machines in Ohio were changing Al Gore votes to the Bush side.

Financial records reviewed by The New York Times show that Michael Cohen, Trump’s fixer, used a shell company, Essential Consultants L.L.C. Transactions adding up to at least $4.4 million flowed through Essential Consultants starting shortly before Trump was elected president and continuing to this January. Among the previously unreported transactions were payments last year of about half a million from Columbus Nova, an investment firm in New York, whose biggest client is a company controlled by Viktor Vekselberg, the Russian oligarch, who is close to Putin. Essential looks like a money laundering operation. It does not engage in any sort of production, or service, or some sort of provisioning, other than the shifting of cash for mysterious purpose.
