Lies by Trump. National Archives appears to refute Trump statement about George H.W. Bush's White House records excerpt: "Perhaps the most dramatic accusation Trump made was the claim that former President George H.W. Bush "took millions and millions of documents to a former bowling alley pieced together with what was then an old and broken Chinese restaurant. They put them together. And it had a broken front door and broken windows. Other than that it was quite secure." As Politifact notes, pointing to an Associated Press clip from the 1990s, it is true that the documents and memorabilia from George H.W. Bush's White House was housed in "an old bowling alley" and "what used to be the kitchen of a Chinese restaurant" while his library was being built in College Station, Texas. But it was far more secure than Trump's rendition. The AP noted: "Uniformed guards patrol the premises. There are closed-circuit television monitors and sophisticated electronic detectors along walls and doors. Some printed material is classified and will remain so for years; it is open only to those with top-secret clearances."

Donald Trump's allies line up to save him from 'dictator' gaffe: report MItt Romney: "I think people who like Donald Trump like Donald Trump regardless of what he says and he entertains them with bombast, which they find humorous and compelling,” he said. “His base loves the authoritarian streak. I think they love the idea that he may use the military in domestic matters and that he will seek revenge and retribution. That’s why he’s saying it and has the lock, nearly, on the Republican nomination.”
Article from September 2023. Chesebro's alibi. Chesebro is one of Trump's attorneys and co-defendants who was indicted in GA. https://www.salon.com/2023/09/21/al...nneth-chesebros-defense-on-fake-elector-plot/ excerpt: "The argument is far-fetched, almost preposterous," Bennett Gershman, a former New York prosecutor and law professor at Pace University, told Salon. "The so-called Republican electors fraudulently claimed they were the official electors from Georgia chosen by the voters when in fact they were not, and they knew that. Chesebro knew that, but concocted this devious scheme to displace the properly chosen electors with imposters." Chesbro's argument, which Gershman described as saying that he "didn't intend to do anything bad" is one his defense attorneys might present to a jury, rather than to a judge in a pretrial motion, Gershman added.
https://www.salon.com/2023/09/21/al...nneth-chesebros-defense-on-fake-elector-plot/ excerpt: "Let's say I write a fraudulent check for $100,000, and while I'm writing it, I say to you, 'You know, this is just a joke. I don't really mean it,'" Morrison said. "But then I take it to the bank and try to deposit it. What does it matter to you that I said it was a joke if I'm actually trying to cash the check? If the check is fraudulent, the check is fraudulent."

The guilty pleas of Chesebro, Powell, and Ellis are dire for Trump. The effects of Chesebro's cooperation with the DOJ and other authorities may have already been seen this week with the state of Nevada indicting Trump's fake electors. Opinion: Why the Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell guilty pleas are so dire for Donald Trump
Opinion: Why the Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell guilty pleas are so dire for Donald Trump excerpt: "What makes Powell and Chesebro so important? Powell has firsthand testimony to give about Giuliani. Recall that she appeared with him at the infamous November 2020 press conference at which brown hair dye appeared to be dripping down from Giuliani’s sideburns. Powell spewed debunked conspiracy theories about Dominion election machines switching Trump votes to Biden. More significantly, she attended, with Giuliani, Meadows and Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security advisor, the shouting-match meeting in the Oval Office on Dec. 18, 2020, in which seizing voting machines and other “outrageous suggestions about overturning the election” were “a central focus.”"
Opinion: Why the Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell guilty pleas are so dire for Donald Trump excerpt: "Likewise, Chesebro’s testimony is incredibly valuable. Chesebro worked with both Eastman and Giuliani, each of whom worked intimately with Trump. Chesebro was an alleged original architect of the false legal claim that Vice President Mike Pence had the authority to overturn the election by rejecting or delaying Congress’ Jan. 6 election certification vote."
