There are three Democrats in the primary hoping to get Portman's seat and two for governor. We can always hope until November happens.

Trump endorsed Vance who, in the past, called Trump an idiot and reprehensible among other things. Vance commercials have him wanting Trump's wall. I don't know what else Trump liked...

In the 1980's, Voinovich was accusing Metzenbaum of being weak on child pornography, the same ploy used by the GOP during Ketanji Brown's Supreme Court confirmation hearings in 2022.

    Howard Metzenbaum - Wikipedia

    excerpt:

"In 1988 Metzenbaum was opposed by Cleveland mayor George Voinovich. Voinovich accused Metzenbaum of being soft on child pornography.[14][15] Voinovich's charges were criticized by many, including Glenn, who recorded a statement for television refuting Voinovich's charges.[16] Metzenbaum won the election by 57% to 43%, even as George H. W. Bush won Ohio's electoral votes by 11 percent.[17] Ten years later, Voinovich was elected to Glenn's U.S. Senate seat after Glenn's retirement."

Fearing a Trump Repeat, Jan. 6 Panel Considers Changes to Insurrection Act

    excerpt:

"WASHINGTON — In the days before the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, some of President Donald J. Trump’s most extreme allies and members of right-wing militia groups urged him to use his power as commander in chief to unleash the military to help keep him in office.

Now, as the House committee investigating last year’s riot uncovers new evidence about the lengths to which Mr. Trump was willing to go to cling to power, some lawmakers on the panel have quietly begun discussions about rewriting the Insurrection Act, the 1807 law that gives presidents wide authority to deploy the military within the United States to respond to a rebellion.

The discussions are preliminary, and debate over the act has been fraught in the aftermath of Mr. Trump’s presidency. Proponents envision a doomsday scenario in which a rogue future president might try to use the military to stoke — rather than put down — an insurrection, or to abuse protesters. But skeptics worry about depriving a president of the power to quickly deploy armed troops in the event of an uprising, as presidents did during the Civil War and the civil rights era.

While Mr. Trump never invoked the law, he threatened to do so in 2020 to have the military crack down on crowds protesting the police killing of George Floyd. Stephen Miller, one of his top advisers, also proposed putting it into effect to turn back migrants at the southwestern border, an idea that was rejected by the defense secretary at the time, Mark T. Esper."

Trump to hold rally in Delaware County.

It's on the north side of Columbus which has been a hot spot for Trump's rioters.

Trump to visit Delaware - Delaware Gazette

    excerpt:

"Former President Donald J. Trump will return to Delaware at a “Save America Rally” at 7 p.m. April 23 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds, 236 Pennsylvania Ave., Delaware.

Individuals interested in attending can visit www.delawarecountyfair.com and click on “See Event Schedule” to register. Up to two tickets can be obtained, and once confirmed by email, people are told they will receive more information a day prior to the rally. Doors open at 2 p.m.

Trump last made a personal appearance in Delaware County on Aug. 4, 2018, at Olentangy Orange High School in Lewis Center. He campaigned then on behalf of 12th Congressional District candidate Troy Balderson, R-Zanesville, who won over Franklin County Recorder Danny O’Connor, D-Columbus, in a special election held Aug. 7, 2018."

Mitt Romney appears to be the only GOP member who stayed and applauded when Ketanji Brown was confirmed for the U.S. Supreme Court.

Trump Allies Continue Legal Drive to Erase His Loss, Stoking Election Doubts

    excerpt:

"Another key player has been Eastman, the right-wing lawyer who persuaded Trump shortly after the election that Vice President Mike Pence could reject certified electoral votes for Biden when he presided over the congressional count and declare Trump the victor instead.

Eastman wrote a memo and Epshteyn sent an email late last year to the main legislator pushing a decertification bill in Wisconsin, laying out a legal theory to justify the action. Eastman met last month with Robin Vos, the speaker of the state Assembly, and activists working across the country, a meeting that was reported earlier by The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Jefferson Davis, an activist from Wisconsin, said he had asked Eastman to join the meeting after hearing about his work on behalf of Trump following the election.

“If it was good enough for the president of the United States,” Davis said in an interview, “then his expertise was good enough to meet with Speaker Vos in Wisconsin on election fraud and what do we do to fix it.”

Vos has maintained that the Legislature has no pathway to decertification, in line with the guidance of its own lawyers.

“There is no mechanism in state or federal law for the Legislature to reverse certified votes cast by the Electoral College and counted by Congress,” the lawyers wrote, adding that impeachment was the only way to remove a sitting president other than in the case of incapacity."

An old clip of Volodymyr Zelenskyy side-eyeing Trump's suggestion that he 'get together' with Putin and solve their 'problem' has resurfaced on Twitter

    excerpt:

"An old video has resurfaced on Twitter of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appearing to look alarmed and disgusted at then-President Donald Trump's suggestion that Zelenskyy "get together" with Russian President Vladimir Putin to solve their "problem."

The video was taken during a meeting on September 25, 2019, between Zelenskyy and Trump, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. At the time, the meeting made the news for other reasons — namely, the release of a shocking memo of a call between the two during which Trump sought to pressure the Ukrainian leader to investigate Joe and Hunter Biden.

Initially posted by a journalist, Aaron Rupar, in 2019, the video was reposted by the historian Heather Cox Richardson, a professor at Boston College, on Tuesday."

Tennessee GOP votes to remove Trump-backed Morgan Ortagus and two other congressional hopefuls from primary ballot | CNN Politics

    excerpt:

"In a major blow to former President Donald Trump, the Tennessee Republican Party voted on Tuesday to boot three candidates from its primary ballot for the 5th Congressional District – including Trump-endorsed hopeful Morgan Ortagus.

Along with Ortagus, who earned Trump’s endorsement in the race earlier this year, congressional candidates Robby Starbuck and Baxter Lee were also removed from the ballot by the party’s executive committee, according to a source briefed on the matter.

The decision came just over a week after state GOP officials agreed to review challenges to the three candidates that raised questions about their Republican bonafides, including whether they had voted in three of the last four Republican primaries, as required by the state party’s bylaws.

Ortagus blasted the move in a statement late Tuesday, claiming that she is “a bonafide Republican by their standards, and frankly, by any metric.” The former State Department spokeswoman moved to Tennessee from Washington, DC, in 2021 and has been accused of carpetbagging by critics, including several state lawmakers who backed a new three-year residency requirement for
Tennessee primary candidates that became law last week."
