Judge Rejects Trump’s Bid to Keep Papers Secret in Jan. 6 Inquiry

    excerpt:

"The ruling does not necessarily mean that the National Archives will turn over the materials to the House committee investigating Jan. 6 any time soon. The case raises novel issues about the scope and limits of a former president’s executive privilege authority, and it is likely that it will ultimately be resolved by the Supreme Court.

In a posting on Twitter, Taylor Budowich, a spokesman for Mr. Trump, said the case was destined to be appealed. He said Mr. Trump was committed to defending the right of past presidents — as well as present and future ones — to assert executive privilege and “will be seeing this process through.”"

Trump brought another burden onto himself. He could have simply conceded the 2020 election or stayed quiet about it. As usual, he chose to create a stink and came close to creating another Saturday Night Massacre when trying to oust Rosen and replace him with Clark.

Now he's in a position similar to that of Nixon who tried both while president and after president to stop material related to Watergate from being released. Nixon lost both times in litigation that eventually went to the Supreme Court.

Judge Rejects Trump’s Bid to Keep Papers Secret in Jan. 6 Inquiry

    excerpt:

"Congress and the Biden administration, she noted, “contend that discovering and coming to terms with the causes underlying the Jan. 6 attack is a matter of unsurpassed public importance because such information relates to our core democratic institutions and the public’s confidence in them. The court agrees.”"

“Finally you say, enough is enough,” Raffensperger said. “You’re just making this stuff up, or you’re misrepresenting what we actually talked about. There’s one hour and 10 minutes of conversation, and you can then decide what exactly was said during our conversation.”"

Raffensperger sounds agitated. It's understandable after listening to the long list of accusations Trump leveled at him during his pressure call a few days before the special Georgia U.S. Senate runoff election, which was a day before the insurrection at the Capitol..

    "Trump:

I would like you to, for the attorneys of, I’d like you to perhaps speak with Ryan, ideally tomorrow, because I think we should come to a resolution of this before the election, otherwise you’re going to have, you’re going to have people just not voting. They don’t want to vote, they hate the state. They hate the governor, and they hate the secretary of state. I will tell you that right now. And the only people that like you are people that will never vote for you, you know that brand, right? They like you, you know, they like you, they can’t believe what they found. They want more people like you. So look, can you get together tomorrow, and Brad, we just want the truth. It’s simple."

Once again Trump is lying, he could have had an infrastructure bill signed, sealed, and delivered by negotiating with the democrats, but when they started to investigate him he dropped it like a hot potato

Trump releases statement trashing McConnell for not passing infrastructure while he was president. But it was Trump who walked away from a $2 trillion deal in 2019.

Former President Donald Trump lambasted Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell after 13 House Republicans and 19 GOP senators voted with Democrats to pass the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the former president reprised his "old crow" moniker for McConnell and said, "he was incapable of getting a great Infrastructure Plan wanting to be put forward by me and the Republican Party?"

In May 2019, Democratic leaders and the Trump administration had a productive first round of negotiations around a floated $2 trillion infrastructure package.

However, the deal crumbled over the Democratic-controlled House investigations into Trump following the release of former special counsel Robert Mueller's report.

Trump mistakenly thought that he could coerce Congress into not investigating him by not cooperating on an infrastructure bill.

He made a similar mistake when he held DACA issue hostage when trying to coerce Congress into giving him U.S. taxpayer funding for his border wall..

He came up empty on infrastructure and immigration, as well as healthcare and education.

In the context of governing, Trump doesn't know how to negotiate.

Finally a judge with some backbone, and as he stated this 3 1/2 year sentence will be at the low end of the scale when it comes to insurrectionists assaulting police officers.

N.J. man hit with toughest sentence yet in Jan. 6 attack

A federal judge on Wednesday imposed the most serious sentence yet in connection with the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, ordering a New Jersey man to serve almost three-and-a-half years in prison for punching a police officer in the face during the melee.

Scott Fairlamb, 44, a former MMA fighter and gym owner, is the first defendant charged with assaulting an officer during the attack to face sentencing. The judge, Royce Lamberth, said he expected Fairlamb’s 41-month sentence would end up lower than others also facing charges for assaulting police that day.
