Flags at public places around the U.S. have gone down during the spate of mass shootings since March. In contrast, nearly 600,000 U.S. coronavirus deaths doesn't seem to register, a toll comparable to that of the American Civil War and Spanish Flu. During the winter, about 4,000 people a day were dying of the coronavirus in the U.S. Although community and activist groups in the U.S. called for March 1st, 2021 to be a commemoration day, the U.S. government doesn't appear to have issued a national commemoration day for the coronavirus pandemic. As his term was ending, Trump declared a national commemoration day for Americans killed by immigrants. At his press gatherings early during the pandemic, he would gloss over the death toll and spend most of his time bashing people and groups he didn't like.
