Trump made those remarks in the days surrounding his campaign interview with Fox at the Lincoln Memorial where he said that no president had been more persecuted than he with Lincoln possibly rising as high as second place. Events at the Lincoln Memorial have been postponed due to the coronavirus but Trump was an exception.
This insulted you? I fail to see how, that was not my intent. Is it a "feelings" thing? Or something more practical?
That's not the point. Trump supporters don't require that Trump do anything for them in terms of actual policy decisions. They like him because he's him, the blustering bully they'd like to be and get away with it. Trump allows their ids to come out to play.
Moreover, the area near Lincoln is off limits even with no coronavirus, but Trump had Bernhardt make him an exception. Most Events in the Lincoln Memorial Are Banned. Trump Got an Exception. Citing the “extraordinary crisis” of the coronavirus, the interior secretary relaxed the rules so the president could hold a Fox News interview in one of the nation’s most hallowed spaces. By Katie Rogers May 4, 2020 Most Events in the Lincoln Memorial Are Banned. Trump Got an Exception. excerpt: "There was just one catch: While Mr. Trump and many other presidents have hosted inauguration concerts and gatherings on the memorial’s steps, any event meant to draw an audience inside the interior near Daniel Chester French’s sculpture of a seated Lincoln is prohibited. The area beginning with the marble staircase where the columns start constitutes a boundary protected by federal law. So on Sunday, when the president sat down with two Fox News anchors at Lincoln’s marbled feet during a coronavirus-focused virtual “town hall,” it was because a directive issued by David Bernhardt, the secretary of the interior, had allowed them to do so."
Here's the thing, if I point out bullshit about Trump, it's not about supporting Trump. It's about calling out bullshit. There's enough real, accurate and true shit about Trump that can be discussed, so what need is there to exaggerate, stretch, enhance or just plain lie about him? You seem to judge people on thin pretenses. I see that on the extreme right and left.
Trump expressed so much gratitude toward his missing lover and dictator Kim Jong-un who resurfaced during the same weekend that he should have done a ceremony with him right at the Lincoln Memorial while insulting Bush for making remarks that called for unity and empathy in America. Trump's unity and empathy is with dictators.
Trump's handlers have been looking desperately for another venue for him to conduct what amount to campaign rallies after he damaged himself badly with briefings at the White House Brady room, so much that his handlers kicked him out of his own briefings. Most Events in the Lincoln Memorial Are Banned. Trump Got an Exception. excerpt: "Mr. Bernhardt’s action enraged critics, who complained that Mr. Trump had essentially conducted a partisan open mic night. But it pleased Mr. Trump and his aides, who had succeeded in creating the element of presidential sweep that he had been craving after weeks of negative news coverage and Twitter outbursts."
About the only suitable venues for Trump are the corporate arenas where he can do his rock star rallies. Any venue that has an aura of respect, such as the Brady briefing room or the Lincoln Memorial (dedicated to people who were shot), makes Trump look even more like a vagabond. It's like putting the Three Stooges in a wealthy household, thinking that it will make gentlemen of them, and watching all the damage they do and the pie fights that ensue.
Trump officials ignored coronavirus warnings, ousted scientist says in complaint By Noam N. Levey, David S. Cloud May 5, 2020 11:30 AM Trump officials ignored coronavirus warnings, ousted scientist says in complaint excerpt: "Rick Bright was abruptly removed in April as head of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, a research agency within the Health and Human Services Department that, among other duties, was overseeing research on coronavirus vaccines. Bright contends that ouster was in retaliation for his clashes with Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and Robert Kadlec, an Azar deputy with responsibility for overseeing public health preparedness. His claims are detailed in a complaint filed Tuesday with the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, which oversees protections of whistleblowers. Kadlec, the assistant secretary for Planning and Readiness, oversaw Bright’s office, known as BARDA. “HHS political leadership leveled baseless criticisms against [Bright] for his proactive efforts to invest early in vaccine development as well as in critical supplies such as masks, respirators, and swabs, which were in short supply and would be necessary to combat COVID-19,” the complaint notes."
