Trump made a gaff similar to that of Conway when he publicly referenced a nonexistent terror attack in France that he thought had just happened after he heard scraps of words on Fox about a years-old news story.
I agree with you. I was just contrasting what the police response would be if someone like me was to walk up there with a rifle. Them white boys were carrying HK 7.62 x 51 rifles, and Russian Draganovs in7.62 x 39, and American AR -15 variants in 5.56 mm military. All they carried was military grade and with big capacity magazines, as in 40 rounds. And I was wondering why the police did nothing to them? To me it looks like disparate treatment.
The participants at Trump's events, such as the protest in Michigan, are a lighter shade of pale. The composition shows no resemblance to the rainbow coalition Trump has standing behind him at his staged rock star rallies.
Kellyanne Conway tried to counter her mistake by saying that she had attended some of Trump's coronavirus meetings, which is even more reason to believe that she doesn't know what she's talking about.
Trump has claimed that China hasn't been honest about its coronavirus death count. DeSantis of Florida has been in lock-step with Trump. Florida curtails reporting of coronavirus death numbers by county medical examiners David Knowles May 1, 2020, 1:35 PM EDT Florida curtails reporting of coronavirus death numbers by county medical examiners excerpt: "Florida health officials have halted the publication of up-to-the-minute death statistics related to the coronavirus pandemic that have, by law, been compiled by medical examiners in the state. The death count compiled by the Medical Examiners Commission was often found to be higher than the figures provided by Florida’s Department of Health, the Tampa Bay Times reported, prompting a review of the data and a suspension of its publication. State officials have not specified what they find objectionable about the medical examiners’ count, nor when they might allow it to be made public again, the Times said. According to the state Department of Health, 34,728 people in Florida have tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, and 1,337 people have died from it, as of Friday morning."
When workers are just trying to earn a decent living (not a filthy rich, exorbitant lifestyle!) for their families, and not have to work 60 or 70 hours per week and two or three jobs to achieve that, I'd say the greed blame lies squarely with the corporate executives. They get their pay, bonuses, stock options & super fat retirement packages by keeping workers' pay LOW. Even if their product or service is selling like hotcakes, they STILL keep workers' pay as low as possible. Don't think so?? Do you honestly believe "corporate America" wants to pay U.S. workers well & fairly?? Then why did they leave the U.S. in the first place??? It's a curious thing to me to see and hear of some American executives & economists recently saying that workers need to be paid more, and even that a national "stipend" type of pay be enacted. Some of them are realizing that for the U.S. economy to survive, the bulk of the people can't just hang on by their fingernails. Millions of U.S. workers are poor, despite working full-time or 2 or 3 jobs. And while working so many hours, their kids are without actual parents and may be with babysitters, or in child-care centers. Maybe having more actual family time together would keep more kids on the straight path. I've heard Republican politicians railing for years that too many kids are being raised by day-care workers, and that's why there are so many kids in trouble. Well ……………… if parents still worked a 40 hour work week with good pay for their skills, maybe those kids could be with parents more. When both parents HAVE to work just to keep their financial noses above water, something has to give. Working several jobs at 60, 70 and some even 80 hours per week is NOT A LIFE. Kids will suffer, and families will suffer. Another thing to consider - All we've heard for a number of years now is that people need to save more for their retirement so they are financially secure in their retirement years. That guidance makes one, often unmentioned, assumption - that they make enough money to be ABLE to save for their retirement. Millions of working Americans barely can pay their bills, let alone save for their "golden years." Add insurance payments for home, auto, and (more and more) health care, plus college(?!!!) savings for their kids for needed economic skills …………………….. holy sh*t !!! How is all that going to happen at the pay rates of workers today??? When you see CEO's and top executives making 10 to 100 million dollars in one year and up to $1 BILLION dollars ( as some fund managers have! ) in one year with pay & stock options - how can ANYONE claim that workers are greedy?????????? For the past 20 years, executive pay & compensation has gone up at a rate of 33% every year !!! Workers …………. lucky to get ANY pay raise, and if they do it's 2% or 3% and NOT EVERY YEAR either. That's why as I said above, some executives & economists are realizing that the pay system in the U.S. HAS to change. The U.S. economy can't stay afloat with the bulk of the population getting poorer in relation to the cost of living.
Here's another FACT - decades ago, U.S. labor unions warned what would happen if consumers didn't look for "Made in the U.S.A." labels and bought foreign-made goods. I'm old enough to remember those ads. ( And guess which party fought tooth and nail in Congress to keep "country of origin" labels from being placed on foreign-made goods, so U.S. consumers wouldn't know where those goods were made??? THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, of course!!! FACT. ) But consumers wanted trendy, exotic, foreign-made things. I still have long underwear that were made by a company in Northeastern Pa. back in the 1980's. They are STILL IN GOOD SHAPE !!!! I wear them hard all the time too. The sh*t quality underwear, tee-shirts, slacks, (clothes in general) towels, sheets, etc. that are made overseas are crap. Bath towels we bought 2 years ago have all the seams tearing out - and they weren't cheap either!!! Foreign-made clothes have seams tearing out all the time. But just try to find a U.S. made clothing line. Or sheets & towels. Or TV's. Or tools. So-called "U.S. companies" sold the country out and sh*t on U.S. workers who built those same companies. Who are the REAL traitors??? Who are the REAL "un-Americans" ???
White House blocks Fauci from testifying before House panel next week Erica Werner, Mike DeBonis May 1, 2020 White House blocks Fauci from testifying before House panel next week excerpt: "The White House is blocking Anthony S. Fauci from testifying before a House subcommittee investigating the coronavirus outbreak and response, arguing that it would be “counterproductive” for him to appear next week while in the midst of participating in the government’s responses to the pandemic. The White House issued a statement about Fauci’s testimony shortly after The Washington Post published a story Friday afternoon quoting a spokesman for the House Appropriations Committee, who said the White House was refusing to allow Fauci to appear at a subcommittee hearing next week."
Pressure mounts on Trump to “drop the hammer” on China Trump wants to retaliate against China over its handling of the coronavirus outbreak. Exactly how is anyone’s guess. By Alex Ward May 1, 2020, 4:30pm EDT Pressure mounts on Trump to "drop the hammer" on China excerpt: "“In my personal opinion, we should drop the fucking hammer on them. Stop being such pussies,” a senior White House official told me, speaking on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to disclose internal deliberations. Top Trump allies, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Republican senators, are pushing Trump to castigate China. Sen. Lindsey Graham, for example, has said the US should “make China pay big time.” The Washington Post reported Thursday that US officials from multiple agencies were planning to gather that day to discuss crafting some sort of retaliation against China."
Trump was ten steps behind again. Despite Trump executive order, meat-processing plants struggle to stay open By Sarah Westwood Updated 7:17 PM ET, Fri May 1, 2020 Despite Trump executive order, meat-processing plants struggle to stay open - CNNPolitics excerpt: "Howard "AV" Roth, president of the National Pork Producers Council, said the administration's move offers hope for farmers struggling to manage a severely backed-up hog supply across the country. But he noted the order came too late for thousands of pigs that farmers will soon need to euthanize. "Once these animals get too big, the processing plants can no longer take them," Roth told CNN. "With this order, we know there's light at the end of the tunnel." The JBS plant in Worthington, Minnesota, that is opening solely for the purpose of putting down pigs will begin euthanizing roughly 13,000 animals per day, the company said on Thursday. "None of us want to euthanize hogs, but our producers are facing a terrible, unprecedented situation," said Bob Krebs, president of JBS USA Pork. "We will do everything in our power to work with the state of Minnesota to responsibly reopen our facility as soon as possible in support of producers who desperately require a more viable option for their hogs.""
Texas has 38 electoral votes. It has voted for a Republican president every election since 1980. Texas went to Carter in 1976. It is gradually drifting back toward the swing state it once was as Asians and Hispanics are becoming an increasing percentage of the electorate. Poll shows Trump, Biden in tight race in Texas By Rebecca Klar 04/29/20 03:24 PM EDT Poll shows Trump, Biden in tight race in Texas excerpt: "A tight race is shaping up in Texas between former Vice President Joe Biden and President Trump, according to a new poll. Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, has a slim 1-point lead over Trump in Texas, based on a poll from the left-leaning firm Public Policy Polling released Wednesday. Biden’s lead is within the poll’s 3.1 percentage-point margin of error. Biden has 47 percent support and Trump has 46 percent support, based on the poll. The same poll found that amid the coronavirus pandemic, just 46 percent of Texas voters said they approve of the job Trump is doing as president, and 49 percent said they disapprove."
Trump administration gets 10-day delay to turn over Mueller docs to House By Katelyn Polantz and Ariane de Vogue, CNN Updated 2:22 PM ET, Fri May 1, 2020 Trump administration gets 10-day delay to turn over Mueller docs to House - CNNPolitics excerpt: "The Justice Department has said it would ask the Supreme Court to intervene in the Mueller grand jury case. If that happens and the Supreme Court wants to hear the case, it could be months before it's resolved. Last month, the appeals court ruled, 2-1, that the Democratic-controlled House could see the grand jury material from the Mueller probe and redacted portions of the Mueller report. The majority agreed that the House Judiciary Committee has a "compelling need" to view the secretive details prosecutors had collected from witnesses and about Trump."
When the President Is a Bigot, the Poison Spreads The consequences ricochet around the world and embolden our adversaries. By Susan E. Rice Aug. 6, 2019 Opinion | When the President Is a Bigot, the Poison Spreads excerpts: "At the same time, immigrants and native-born Americans live in constant fear of law enforcement officials emboldened to think they can act with impunity. Still, Mr. Trump revels in ripping off the fragile scab over the lingering sore that is our country’s historical racial divide, as if to ensure it never heals. The president’s appalling goal, quite simply, is to pit Americans against one another for crass political purposes as well as, it seems, to vent his unabashed personal prejudice. Meanwhile, Republicans in Congress by and large amplify his message through their deafening silence, abdicating their responsibility to serve our country above any political master and making a mockery of their claim to be “the party of Lincoln.”" "Most dangerously, President Trump is serving up to our adversaries an ever more divided and weakened America, one that is animated by suspicion, rived by hatred of the “other” and increasingly incapable of uniting in the face of external threats. Russia, above all, continues to exploit and exacerbate these divisions."
"Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, has a slim 1-point lead over Trump in Texas, based on a poll from the left-leaning firm Public Policy Polling" Sounds legit
Trump is a populist wind vane. He will trust China or North Korea at the moment if he thinks it will benefit him. He trusted China on the coronavirus when he was negotiating with it to try to undo some of the damage caused by the trade wars he started. His damage to U.S. farmers and others is much worse now due his poor response to the virus. After the damage caused by his lax response to the virus, he blames China and says he will retaliate. That will cause more damage on top of the damage already done by his trade wars. When he later tries to negotiate to undo his retaliation damage, he will once again trust China and refer to Xi as a great guy. Trump will retaliate against China as he tries to borrow more money from it, other countries, and Americans to try to pay for the multi-trillion dollar problem he helped create by trusting China in the first place and dismissing the virus pandemic.
