WHO published our first Disease Outbreak News on the new virus. This is a flagship technical publication to the scientific and public health community as well as global media. It contained a risk assessment and advice, and reported on what China had told the organization about the status of patients and the public health response on the cluster of pneumonia cases in Wuhan.

WHO issued a comprehensive package of technical guidance online with advice to all countries on how to detect, test and manage potential cases, based on what was known about the virus at the time. This guidance was shared with WHO's regional emergency directors to share with WHO representatives in countries.

Based on experience with SARS and MERS and known modes of transmission of respiratory viruses, infection and prevention control guidance were published to protect health workers recommending droplet and contact precautions when caring for patients, and airborne precautions for aerosol generating procedures conducted by health workers.



So the CDC would have known of the possibility of a serious disease in early January... Had Trump listened to his advisors, he would have known also... But he knows more than all those guys....

 

He is now actively encouraging people to break social distancing and isolation. This goes against every piece of scientific evidence. The man is a fucking fool and a dangerous one at that!!!!!!!!!!!

Deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and severity, and by the alarming levels of inaction, WHO made the assessment that COVID-19 can be characterized as a pandemic.

So, first case in China was 17 November, it took 6 weeks for the WHO to realise ( Bluedot actually flagged a pandemic before WHO did), then it took WHO another 2 1/2 months to declare it a Pandemic on March 11

So now we know the first death was actually in California 6th February

10 days after that US CDC was having a little tour in Wuhan clueless about the first US death. It took the WHO over a month to declare it a pandemic after the first actual US death

A week after that declaration, California was in lockdown


So it really took 4 months for the WHO to declare it a pandemic, and 2 months for the CDC to work out when the first US death actually was

And these are the "experts" you claim where advising Trump

On top of that you had multiple start vectors for the virus in California earlier than New York, but still no official explanation as to why the difference in the spread....even though it's as painfully obvious as temperature and population spread and demographics

i.e they are still not fucking doing their job properly

We have the same problem here state premiers who for the most part were lawyers, or union reps, ran for office, then spent a couple years blowing money on tram lines no one uses or budgeting for sewage treatment works, all of a sudden thrust into action that is well beyond their IQ levels

As for the US, Cuomo actually has a good resume, DA, Attorney General, planning and development, something about homeless management, can't remember what

But this Whitmer? County prosecutor and then this, way out of her depth. And the state governors calling the shots at the moment

It's ridiculous

I hope my country at least changes the rules so federal is in charge of everything next time something like this happens, not some twit that spent the previous 20 years prosecuting lame civil suits

 

MY sincere wish is that our next President has some good experience at actually knowing how to govern, how to interact with other people with respect and dignity, take advice from experts in various fields, listen to the military leaders and the intelligence community, and doesn't bad-mouth, denigrate and mock them..

Like he did with the coronavirus, Trump can tell the 26 million workers in the U.S. who lost jobs to just be calm and the problem will go away.

Trump tried to make Birx agree with his downplaying the possibility that the coronavirus problem could recur in autumn. Birx didn't agree.

Birx should have said that people like Trump mistakenly said that the virus would go away in April due to warm weather and wouldn't even become a significant problem.

The current coronavirus death toll in the U.S. is near 49,000.

I am a member of a high risk group and it’s horrifically obvious that Trump has already thrown us under the bus. The only bright spot is we live in Washington State and Governor Inslee is doing an admirable job in this crisis.

They are still unsure at this stage whether the virus attacks the kidneys / causes blood clots before, during or after serious breathing troubles

If by high risk you mean respiratory troubles, it may sound counter intuitive as you have been hearing a lot about ventilators, but that's not as high risk as diabetes and hypertension, which came out in China, Italy and US early on as the highest risk factors
