Trump Barrels Forward With Plan to Start Reopening the Country ASAP
According to a new poll, most Americans are worried about easing social distancing restrictions too soon—but Trump thinks it’s already time for states to start getting back to normal.

Trump Barrels Forward With Plan to Start Reopening the Country ASAP

    excerpt:

"After initially claiming in recent days that he had “total” authority to force states to reopen, Trump said Thursday that he would leave it up to the states to reopen on their own timelines, with criteria that requires states to have seen a 14-day decline in cases and have their hospital systems under control before relaxing guidelines. (The Washington Post reports that the decision to leave the reopening decisions up to governors was a “deliberate political calculation that [doing so] will better serve Trump’s interest.”) Though the plan sets out guidelines for reopening businesses, however, the White House fails to mention any coordinated strategy for ramped-up testing capabilities or contact tracing, instead seemingly leaving it up to states to implement the necessary infrastructure to enable a return to normalcy on their own. NBC News reports that the Trump administration is “exploring” how to dramatically ramp up testing in order for the economy to reopen, but it still remains “uncertain” how that would work or what the timeline would be. As Dr. Anthony Fauci recently told Vanity Fair contributor Peter Hamby, the government is also still “really far” from implementing programs like an immunity registry that could help get things back to normal. “This isn't a plan,” former Ebola czar Ronald Klain wrote on Twitter Thursday about the White House guidelines. “It's barely a powerpoint.”"

In Trump's mind, he has total authority to dictate to the states to comply with his guidelines by getting it done themselves to reopen the country so that he can be reelected while he takes no responsibility because he desribes himself as just supplementary to the states even though he claims total authority over them.

Trump will allow states to call the shots, as long as they call them the way he wants. But he can still deny responsibility if virus deaths spikes because the states still called the shots.

Trump completes reversal, telling govs 'you are going to call your own shots' and distributes new guidelines

Trump tells govs 'you are going to call your own shots' and distributes new guidelines - CNNPolitics

    excerpt:

""You are going to call your own shots," Trump said, according to a person familiar with the conversation. "I've gotten to know almost all of you, most of you I've known and some very well. You are all very capable people, I think in all cases, very capable people. And you're going to be calling your shots."

It was a turnabout from his Monday claim that "the President of the United States calls the shots" in how to ease restrictions that have kept most Americans indoors and forced closures of schools, restaurants, gyms and other businesses. And it was an indication that even as he tries to ease the country out of its virtual shutdown, Trump will place responsibility elsewhere should cases spike again."

Trump praised the CDC and WHO on Feb 24, 2020.

He used the term 'World Health' instead of Wold Health Organization. He could now claim that he didn't mean WHO.

The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA. We are in contact with everyone and all relevant countries. CDC & World Health have been working hard and very smart. Stock Market starting to look very good to me!

Maybe someone explained to Trump after he put his blocks and stuffed "Barney" dinosaur toy down that he can't claim to be in total control of everything, everywhere, at all times ………………… and then try to blame others for his own decisions and failures.

Wednesday - "I have total authority over all the states."
Thursday - "You guys are calling your own shots. It's up to each governor to decide when to re-open their states."

Trump could impose more tariffs on China as punishment for his claim that it was not forthright about the coronavirus, similar to his punishment of the WHO by trying to cut its funding.

China economy shrinks for first time as Wuhan Covid-19 death toll is increased by 1,300
Worst GDP fall on record comes after months of paralysis as the country went into lockdown to contain coronavirus

China economy shrinks for first time as Wuhan Covid-19 death toll is increased by 1,300

    excerpts:

"China’s economy shrank 6.8% in the three months of 2020, the country’s first such contraction on record and a stark sign of the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

The news came as Chinese authorities revised the death toll in Wuhan, the hardest hit city and where the virus first emerged, up by 50%, to 3,869 from 2,579.

Citing the number of patients who had died at home before reaching hospital, as well as late and inaccurate reporting, the city’s task force on virus prevention and control said: “Every loss of life during the epidemic is not just a source of sorrow for their family, but for the city as well. We would like to send our sincere sympathies to the family members.”"

"Depressed demand from overseas is likely to hit the Chinese economy further. China’s first quarter contraction follows declines in 2019, which saw the Chinese economy expand at its slowest pace in almost 30 years, the result of slowing consumption, a pull back on debt-fuelled growth, and a protracted trade war with the US.

Analysts polled by Reuters estimate China’s yearly growth for 2020 will slow to 2.5% from 6.1% last year, the weakest pace since the last year of the Cultural Revolution."

Trump taps members of Congress to advise on reopening

    excerpts:

"In fact, all Senate Republicans except for Sen. Mitt Romney (Utah) were among the names issued by the White House later Thursday."

"The formation of the congressional task force comes as Trump is eager to start reopening shuttered sectors of the country quickly as the coronavirus has devastated the economy. An additional 5.2 million people filed for unemployment last week, according to federal data released on Thursday morning. That puts the total number of unemployment claims over the past month at more than 22 million."

Trump's claim of personal victory in his botched coronavirus response is similar to his contention that he was a success with his bankrupt casinos in the 1990's because he was the first to fail and supposedly lost less money than the other casinos that failed later.

In spite of his spin, the other casinos recovered and stayed in business and his didn't.

    Donald Trump’s Greatest Escape
His critics assume this crisis has to take Trump down, whether for the bungled response or the economic collapse. They’re missing something important: He’s been training for this moment his entire life.

    Donald Trump’s Greatest Escape

    excerpt:

"“He’s obviously positioning himself for the long haul here,” O’Donnell said. “For all his lack of knowledge about so many things, he’s pretty darn media-savvy, and he’s working this right now almost brilliantly to the extent that he realizes the value of putting himself out there every day, and even if he doesn’t say the right thing every day, and even if he contradicts himself, what he’s doing is he’s laying a framework to defend himself. He’s spinning this every day now: 2 million would have died if it wasn’t for me—and it’s pretty clear it’s not going to get to 2 million—so whatever that number is beneath it, whether it’s 100,000 or 200,000, which is just horrible, to him it’s a victory. And he’s going to present it as that.”

It’s what he’s done for decades, hawking these kinds of alternative narratives—first and foremost the lie that he’s a self-made man—and these narratives have been remarkably successful, and protective, too."

Trump's former employees of his failed casinos felt the crunch but the rest of the country didn't, a situation that is different than his failed coronavirus response. 22 million people in the U.S. have filed for unemployment since the coronavirus problems began in the U.S.

Trump has his work cut out for him to do a grand sales job on the public. Placing his name on the IRS damage-control checks to the public is one tactic he's using. Another is attacking China and the WHO, consistent with his rants against other countries and multilateral entities that go back to the 1980's and strike a nerve in his following.

So, so true. His stance has always been - if it's a good thing, he's the reason for it happening. If something's bad, it's everyone else's fault - even when he claims he's the one in charge of something. This goes back his entire life in business. He's always "the man" in charge, but when his businesses - or his corona virus response - flounders - it's AGAIN, someone else's fault.

Well if he's in charge and "so brilliant - a genius" - then why couldn't he see these faults / shortcomings in advance or be smart enough to hire the right people for the job???

You are wrong … again. The president is required to carry out America's law Forthwith exactly as Nancy Pelosi has ordered. All Bills Of Revenue must originate in the House Of Representatives. Nancy makes the laws and Donald is compelled to carry them out or get impeached again. In the next impeachment he just might be removed. And in any case, early voting starts in about four and a half months. Take a look at what the people of Wisconsin did to The Republican Party last week. Trump campaigned for Kelly and The Democrat got elected by a giant margin.

I hope he starts giving some TV interviews again so we could know more about that big organized crime operation. America's new Attorney General is going to need that information.
