Well, Inbloom, you're not one of Jack's favorite readers, either.

    He's famous, you're.........

I loved The Dharma Bums. It changed me. I love all Kerouac though. I loved this more than On the Road.

its great if you can read it unpretentiously, which is extremely hard to do.

I basically agree with this, and someone else who said it was at times beautiful and at times boring. I also found it rather anticlimactic.

But it was worth the read, for sure.

Mmmm, I see now the comment that Thudly was talking about.

I've read more Kerouac since, and found that he just has a very unique style. I actually do rather enjoy his work now, and he is a favourite writer of mine. But, yeah, Dharma Bums still was a bit anti-climactic, I agree.

I actually love Kerouac's style, he uses good wording, on even the simplest things.

I've been reading "Heaven & Other Poems" lately. A collection of Jack's poems from the late 50's/early 60's. Great work, very inspiring. :)

And you're right, flowersinmyhair, he does use good wording.

ohh i loved this book. on the road was really good and it got me interested in kerouac, but after i read dharma bums i was completely hooked! i agree with the great wording-- sometimes he uses so many adjectives! i was already interested in buddhism when i read it (that's one of the reasons i got it in the first place) and it was just beautiful the way they could live life so happily and simply. japhy was a great character. the ending was beautiful. i loved when he went back home and spent so much time meditating in the woods with the animals. i really want to read this again:)

This book changed my life...literally! It is the reason I became more independent and also the reason I am an English major, hoping to go into the book publishing industry.

In my opinion, this is his best work and way better than "On the Road".
