I find it interesting how doctors prove someone is dead over the years.

I find it amusing that after like 100 years, there's still investigations ongoing about Jack the Ripper lol. Like what, you gonna sentence a pile of bones to life in prison? What's the point, seriously? They'll never know, and who the fuck cares anymore?

There was German man sentenced ten years for WW2 crimes only week ago. C'mon, man. If you can't sort your facts out in 60+ years then the man is free to go. He'd have been dreading that for 60 years. Time served already. Fuck.

The guy volunteered to join the SS and was stationed at Auschwitz, and was found to be complicit in the deaths of 170,000 people. How can you think he does not deserve to be punished for that, even this long after it happened?

it'd be a waste because your country would allow the next republican president to issue full pardon anyway

The SS wasn't a glorified murdering machine with commercials and banners screaming "join us and murder people", so volunteering for the SS really isn't anything. My grandfather volunteered for the SS too. So did a heck of a lot of other young men. The SS was like your special forces, there were many different branches and divisions of SS. Don't for one second tell me every soldier who volunteered knew what they were doing when the SS itself was formed well before, well before any war crime stories that commenced. Auschwitz too, was a political encampment early on. Being stationed there doesn't make you a bad person.

10 years for 170,000 people? Yeah. Lol. Sounds convincing.

One of the reasons I don't like the justification do punish him now is that everyone else was punished a very long time ago, mostly murdered themselves. So 70+ years on and someone pulls a file of paperwork with some ones name on it that is still alive. Hell, I'd have written a book or made a documentary out of his story, not serve the man ten years.

You make a good point Irm. They were doing what they thought was right for Germany at the time. You can find some examples of men who enjoyed their work but you can find examples of Germans who helped people escape the Nazis.
