I dunno, I doubt it'll do anything really. I don't think I've ever heard of a cop enforcing this before, and I highly doubt it's something they will continue to do. Even the transport agency's spokeswoman said that it's something they don't enforce. The signs seem like more of a suggestion than anything else, at least whenever I see them.

But I do agree with you that she could have avoided it. She is partly to blame for her ticket.

she could have avoided the entire fine by just putting one hand on the rail the first, or second time she was asked. she could have avoided the $320 by showing her ID and not causing a scene after the officer gave her the $100 ticket. she probably could have fought the $100 ticket in court and won, and she'll probably with this $420 ticket, but whatevs

even though it's a stupid law, it's stupid people (aka the public) that put up with it and everyone that lives in that city is partly to blame.

 

It is certainly partly her fault. But people shouldn't be forced to do things they wouldn't otherwise do. This is a very timid example of that, but there are others that I'm too lazy to take the time to think about right now. I'd like to know how such a silly thing became LAW though.
