i read it ages ago but i really enjoyed it. i really liked holdens character. i have been meaning to reread it.
it was a very umm fun and nice story to read Holden is alot like me, or I am alot like him or whatever, so that made things interesting what annoyed me about him (that is unlike me) is how everything was lways making him sad and it was a pretty pointless story overall, I guess that's not as phony as if there were some deep meaning, but still
I really didn't like this book. Perhaps I was too old when I finally got around to it but I just wanted to smack Holden around for being so damn whiny.
i teach catcher in te rye to my tenth graders and the kids tend to like the book quite a bit. they seem to relate to holden. personally the more i read the book the more i think holden is a phoney, but i think it's a good book for teenagers to read for them to learn that they arn't all that different form teenagers of different eras.
Im not a huge fiction fan, but this was one of the most well writen, and amazing books. I plan on reading it again after I finish my current 3. I usually don;t read books twice.
its about Holden Caulfield and he leaves his prep school(gets kicked out) and goes out into the world to find that most people are fony and fake. Takes place within 3 days, ive read it about 4 times. It incredible
it was a decent read when i was younger now that i'm older it seems very slow, but still a must read for everyone at least once in their lives.
I just finished this book today. I really liked Holden, he might just be one of my favorite book characters. I found I could relate to him in quite a few ways, he sort of reminded me of myself. I had lots of fun reading this book, even though the last chapter was a little disappointing.
Coincidence and synchronicity! Amazing! A very close person just told me a day or two ago that he really identified with this character [Holden] when he was younger. I love the universe All dem connexions makes the Je4ss verryy Happeee
this book is really really good. i read it sraight after On the Road which was bit of a mistake(nothing compares to it)although the story is short, there is many interesting pieces to it. you dont just get to hear about what went on in this boys life at this time, but you also get to know how he feels and what he thinks of the world. not a finer book for teenagers with alot of angst, and that think adults are phoney
I liked the book a lot. Didn't really relate to Holden as much as other teenagers do but it was well-written and darkly amusing.
This book is awesome...it's the only book I've read more than twice. I read it every February and I haven't gotten sick of it yet.
I read it when I was 14, and I've been afraid to read it again for fear it wouldn't live up to my memories of it. I had never read such a blunt and profane book, and I laughed til I cried multiple times (and I can be a tough one to crack, so this is high praise from me). I'm afraid it wouldn't have aged well, but everyone has to read Catcher in the Rye at least once. It's just so archetypal!
I read it and it didn't really live up to all the talk, for me anyhow. Although Holden is easily able to be related to, I found the writing style rather irritating at times. Case in point would be his 1+ page tangent on someone stealing his mittens. Eh, I can see how some love it, just didn't work for me. To each their own I guess =)
