    On the Road is also one of my favorites- Jack Kerouac writes such beautiful words!

    I also liked The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test.

    I'm not sure if would be considered a "Hippie book" but one of my favorite books I've ever read, and would recommend is The Secret. I'm very big into Spirituality and it totally was an eye opener for me. You truly can manifest what you want in your life.

    And Alice in Wonderland ;)

    Not trying to knock you but I really hate the secret :( affirmations and well known eastern teachings wrapped up in materialism and commercialism. Gross. Affirmations never have been a secret, dammit. I was reading about them in a book by the Dilbert guy in the 90's for Christ sake.

    The Politics of Ecstasy by Timothy Leary
    Be Here Now by Ram Dass
    Hey Beatnik, It's The Farm by Stephen Gaskin
    Hippies & American Values by Timothy Miller

    There's a million more. That's all I could think of off the top.

    In response to some of the comments made
    I have not read any Brautigan, tho has been on my "to read" list for many years.
    Zen and Motorcycle maintenance is lovely, but I'm having a terrible time with it. I haven't completely given up, but do stop and read other books to get away from it.
    I'm a Kerouac fan. Currently reading Dharma Bums and Visions of Cody is next. I can understand the lack of a plot. And I really like how someone said life doesn't have a plot. I don't need a "plot" in a story as long as I can relate or find the topic interesting!!!

    Happy reading!!!!

    Steal this Book-> Abbie* *
    -out of date now- - but was a must back in the old days, as far as how to get over and get by as a" hippie" battling a system that wasnt exactly throwing out the welcome mat- - A "how to "Almanac

    Electric koolaid acid test< Kesey- - was / and probably still is- a great history lesson of the psychedelic beginnings
