I think almost anyone can relate to Sylvia Plath's altar ego in some way or another. The book is all about how society restrains people by putting them into categories and limiting their behavior and dreams to the point where they just can't go on anymore and either end up in an institution or just die. I think also because Plath was writing from her own experience, it's hard not to become completely absorbed in the character. I also took it in the same light as One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, in its example of how tortuous the mental-health system was (and still can be!).
omg....my friend (bloody_kisses) loves this book soooo much. she just let me borrow it but i haven't read it yet because i have my own book im reading. i saw the movie though.......very depressing but very very good.
definetly one of my favorite books. i am a HUGE plath fan. i could relate to SO much in that book. if you like the bell jar, then you should definetly read her poetry books.
