Thats because text speak is harder to understand! It takes a lot longer to decipher text speak than it does the paragraph above...
I'd only heard about it yesterday, seemed random enough for here Text speak I can't stand either, I'm sure that would be the same for this if I had to read it as often. Wish I could remember some examples, but text speak even seems to be bastardizing itself now, I can understand the odd 'u' but for all words to be 'texterised' makes it jibberish to me. At least with this you're given all the right letters!
