I recognize your attempt to draw my serious answer out, I'll meet you half way.
I felt it was a joke because the prospect of lowering the age of consent to 13, an age that is the very threshold of puberty and an age where many kids haven't even begun puberty yet, is so ridiculous that I have to believe it could only be put forth in jest.

 

I think 16 is an acceptable age of consent, but seeing some 40-60 year old dude with a 16 year old would be really weird,although it does happen. I'm 33 ,almost 34 and I do notdate girls under 22 or 21 usually, because most are hard for me to relate to at that age, although I have dated 20 year old girls and 19 year olds when I was like 25 or so,but I think that more than 10 years difference in age makes it hard to relate to , not always.

 

Age difference is not the issue here and is totally irrelevant... Once all are adults, it is nobodies business but those involved, no matter how big or small that difference is.

It is worth noting that the age of consent in Vatican City is 12 and it is 14 in a lot of European countries including Italy, Germany and Austria. Not saying that is right, just pointing out that it exists in a lot of countries.

I started puberty early and my boobs grew huge (by girl standards) quickly, then stopped growing forever basically. Fast bloomer? They're not that big on my 27 year old body, but when I was 13 they were epic. I remember having to deal with men who would flirt with me because they were blinded by the tatas. I definitely wasn't ready to have sex when I was 13, I probably wasn't ready when I did actually lose my virginity a couple of years later. But at least then I was old enough to know what I wanted to do, even if it was potentially stupid.

In my opinion, 13 is too young to have sex. Not only because of the possibility to conceive a child. Also because others might take advantage of this. I think many people at this age are not mature/courageous enough to block whenever they feel like it. That is why I think they should be protected.

Sorry, but I respectfully have to disagree. 16 year olds are no children, neither by law, nor by their minds. They are teenagers - in between both stadiums of life. Your age tells me, that we are both 21. Same with us, we are no teenagers anymore, but would you consider yourself "adult"? I guess not.
I think its a huge mistake to underestimate 16 year olds. It's time to prepare them for life and let them get used to the feeling of (relative) independence. If we continue judging them as children, then there's no way for them to experiment and stuff.

Thirteen is far, far too low. I have to agree that only a pedophile would want it lowered to that age. I could never look at a 13 year old in that way.

 

There's often age problems even with the age bubble system we have. I do think that 13 is fine, but there should be a growing age window, as you get older... ie 13 year olds can only have sex with 13/14 year olds, 14-16, 15-18, You get a year older, you get a year added to your bubble. Below 13, I would think only people the exact same age can consent. But especially with what modern society and chemicals and hormones and all have done to puberty, I don't think it's right to tell kids they just can't have sex.... Shit, puberty used to be when you where about... 18....
