so if you've seen kill bill, you've heard the 5,6,7,8's. they're the japanese girl band playing in the house of blue leaves before kiddo massacres the crazy 88...

they're a real band. their appearance in the movie was most viewer's first encounter with them....not the most musically talented, but somehow catchy none the less....

Ooh! I love, love, LOVE the 5678s!

I love them so much that I spewed on and on about them in my LiveJournal. LOL Look...

The garage-rock queens ("garagecats") of the underground Japanese rock scene, The 5.6.7.8's...

I only knew them from Kill Bill, and got hooked on their song "I Walk Like Jayne Mansfield." I loved that song so much that I did a little more digging and discovered some great stuff. Believe it or not, they formed in 1986 and have been rocking ever since. Their songs have a psych-60s/retro rock feel to them, so if you dig bands like The White Stripes (with whom they once shared a label, Sympathy For The Record Industry) and The Strokes, you'll love these girls. This is coming from a download junkie, but I really think their albums The 5.6.7.8's, Bomb The Twist, and Can't Help It are well worth the money. Their latest album is Teenage Mojo Workout, which I haven't been able to buy yet since I'm trying to save for you-know-what. But I'm sure that's a stellar album, too. :-D

But if you're like me and need to hear it to believe it, the only songs you can find on Kazaa are "Bond Girl", "Oriental Rock", "Woo Hoo", and "High School Witch". "Woo Hoo" is their most popular song, since it's on the Kill Bill Soundtrack, but I don't think it's one of their best songs. It's a lot tamer than everything else they do. If you go to the Kill Bill website, you can hear "I Walk Like Jayne Mansfield" playing in Go-Go Yubari's flash intro. Why they didn't put this one on the KB soundtrack is beyond me. It's a lot better than "Woo Hoo".

But, if I had to recommend one song to download it would definitely be "Bond Girl". Very hardcore, rockin' tune. I love it! <3 Just listen to the first 20 seconds of the song and you'll be hooked. :-D

They've said that they know they'll never be big in Japan because their profession is too unconventional for Japanese standards. I think that's the coolest thing about them. They've got husbands and babies and still rock. And with the way the music industry is in the States, I doubt they'll make it big here. But really, is not making it big here a bad thing? Look at those who have made it big here: J-Lo, Limp Bizkit, Hillary Duff...I don't think The 5.6.7.8's are missing out. LOL

I'm crazy about those chicks! Boy can they play some kick-ass music. I made that post a while back, and since the ever-rising popularity of Kill Bill, there's a lot more songs and such available for download now. "I'm Blue" is TERRIFIC! That's one I didn't mention above. "Ah So" is great, too. Hell, ALL their stuff is fab. <3
