Directions to the Spring Council will be posted this Saturday June 8 and the meeting is scheduled to begin on Monday June 10 to determine the site of the 2024 National Rainbow Family Gathering. The last I checked it was narrowed down to California, Washington or Oklahoma.

I'm not a member of Facebook and don't care to be. Can anyone on this site post where the meeting will take place and then where the gathering will take place?

Spring Council will meet starting this Saturday to determine where the gathering will be. Here are the directions:

    DIRECTIONS TO SPRING COUNCIL

Go to Susanville, CA on Hwy 395 (north of Reno, NV).
From Susanville, CA, take highway 36 west for 9 miles. While still on highway 36 you will see a sign for the Roxie-Peconom Campground -- head for that. Turn left on Willard Creek Road aka Forest Service Road 29N03. Head towards the Roxi-Peconom Campground and look for gatherers along the creek in the free camping area (OUTSIDE THE PAY CAMPGROUND). Folks will be camped near Willard Creek Road.

There’s one national forest in Oklahoma, and most is actually in Arkansas. Copperhead country.

With the heat waves the country has been experiencing I would hope it won't be held in Oklahoma.

Spring Council is currently underway, I have a website up which will tell me where the gathering will be once the decision has been made, and after 2 days there's been no update.

The gathering has been canceled by the forest service.
I tried to drive in there, got about 10 miles into it on a gravel road, and was stopped and told my only option is to turn around. They said the rainbow family didn't have the proper permits and that all people who were already there had 48 hours to leave or they would be arrested.
I'm now in a motel room checking for updates as to whether an alternate site has been found or if the gathering is canceled all together. This certainly sucks!

Another thing, the gravel road leading into it is very narrow and it winds and twists while going up a hill. I was driving an SUV and it struggled. I can't imagine what it would be like if I was towing a trailer or if it was a hippie bus trying to navigate that so-called road. A couple times I had to pull off to the side to let it logging truck go by. And they were planning to have thousands of cars go up that? For all I know it might have been a great site, I wouldn't know since I never got there, but they need to consider how easy access to it is, and apparently this time the council didn't consider that at all.

After a couple days in a motel I was about to give up on the gathering when I got the word that the forest service granted us a new site. It was about 70 miles south of Susanville near a town called Beckwourth.

They had us park along about a half mile stretch of this forest road and camp in the woods. The area had a fire three years ago and apparently the forest service decided it would be less likely to start a fire in an area that was recently burned.

Damn it was dusty! We weren’t allowed to have campfires and all the kitchens had to use propane. Despite all the setbacks I must give the Rainbow Council all the credit in the world, they took a difficult situation and made it work. I had a good time there and left on the 5th, the day after the annual July 4th Prayer for Peace. I wish the Council all the luck in the world finding future sites.

Here are a couple pics from the Prayer for Peace, with people dancing to the drum circle.
