well that's cool then. i've never been to AA or any other type of rehab myself so i don't really know exactly what goes on. i just get my info secondhand from several people i know who have been in, and they claim that a lot of what is said amounts to "you're worthless; let god cure you or you might as well just give up." but hell, if it works then that's great, as long as they aren't claiming to be the only possible answer.
In my nearly 23 years of sobriety I've noticed the majority of people that bad mouth AA are the ones that just aren't ready to admit that their way hasn't work. My best thinking didn't cure me, the 12 steps did.
Olhippie54 could be right. On the other hand, as the child of two alcoholics, and an alcoholic myself, armed with the knowledge that 12 Step only has a 15 percent long term success rate, I am proof that there is a better way. But again, it all depends on the individual. You want to know how to stop drinking and abusing a substance? You wake up one morning, you decide you want to live, you grow a man-sized pair of balls and you don't fucking do it any more. I still take a drink, but I don't get totally shitfaced, I don't do it every day, hell I might have a beer once a week, if that. You cannot function if you're drinking, getting high or chugging Robitussin every damn day. If you want to function, be stronger than your substance. Your mileage may vary.
If substance abuse is fucking up your life it doesn't really matter how you stop just so long as you do before it kills you.
Based on her posts this time around I think you're too late even for that. But she could always change her name to ClimbingArmsofCauliflower...
