I have a lot of long faces here today and mine is included as tomorrow life resumes back to the normal grind.

    Holidays go so quickly.

i do not understand "lazy". i do not understand the opposite of lazy. i do not understand beginning and end.

to me, one day has come and gone, just as other days come and go.
i am quite happy for it to be this way.

of course i am happy for people who special days make them happy.

but for me, there are other things that interest me more, and those things, they do not become more or less because it is one day or another.

    Hello,

yepp, but to be honnest, it got a little bit boring. Sleeping til 8am, hanging and watching the birds, eating all that stuff, hiking all day...

Oh, I'm sorry. But, but, but there's one thing I have to tell you ;). I live in one of the three federal states where today is a public holiday ;).

Well... I have nothing to say to you.

I was supposed to finish work an hour and a half ago. But due to some crazy staff member, I've only just left as I've had to fix all of the crap she caused.

Hope you enjoyed your public holiday!!

    Hello,

    ;)

enjoy your evening ;). Well, my day wasn't that exiting. I cleaned my flat, did the dishes, etc. ppp. Things that have to be done every now and then. All what's left for today is buying a commuter ticket and maybe paying a visit to the chippy ;).

    Regards

Yeah, my last few days were filled with cleaning too.
Really, I should have spent the time having fun.

I'm going to do nothing all evening. I had three and a half hours sleep last night and have been up since 5am. Should do some essay writing, but it's wise to leave that until tomorrow.

Chips sound good right now. With lots of salt and vinegar!

    Hello,

my flat is neither filthy nor is it super clean. It feels good if all the work is done and everything is shiny like in this ads ;).

    There's always a tomorrow, until deadline ;).

They sell them with salt and maybe a mix of spices here. I had them with vinegar before. They taste different ;), but not bad. I would try them again. But anyways, due to the holiday the chippy is closed. So instead of chips I have kebab now. The shop owner don't give a f* about Christian holidays ;).

    Regards
    Gyro

How is the chippy called over there, Gyro? Here we call it generally the snackbar. I noticed more kebab places in Germany (even in the villages) than 'chippy's'. But not sure if the potato chip places are considered more traditional there as the kebab/döner places.. Here the dutch version of the chips (patat) is considered traditionally dutch :p (unlike kebab which still is viewed as mainly turkish, but greatly accepted in all towns nevertheless ;))
My favourite snackbar in the neighbourhood is owned by chinese people and pretty much always open  I usually go there once a week (sunday).

    Hello,

a German translation for chippy is 'Pommesbude' or 'Frittenbude'. 'Pommes' or 'Fritten' are the potatoe sticks and 'Bude' is a joint or shack. I'm not sure if there are more kebab shops than chip joints in Germany. But you will find one or more kebab shops in every bigger city. The 'Doener', that is meat, veggies and secret ingredients in a piece of pieta bread, was invented around 1970 in Berlin by an immigrant (if one can trust the legends ;-)). But I wouldn't be surprised if people really think that 'Doener' is what the Turkish people eat back in their home country ;). So people tend to think that chips and bratwurst is more traditional than kebab.

I like Chinese food, too (or at least what is sold here as Chinese food). But I have to walk 30 minutes to the next Chinese take-away, while I can reach the chippy or the kebab shop in about 10 minutes. And remember, I'm a lazy bastard ;).

    Regards
    Gyro

I think I kind of overdosed on kebab when I was about 20 :p Seriously, the only kebab I still get every once in awhile is chicken kebab. I used to eat kebab (and döner) on a regular basis, I guess so much I really got done with it. Kebab and döner seems to be sold in the same places as far as I know (but as I explained I'm not really an expert anymore).
Oh yeah, the frittenbude/pommesbude seems like a very similar definition for the chippies that we have in the netherlands. It's funny how it differs per country, as we certainly would never put vinegar on the frites but as we all know from Pulp fiction, americans are scared for mayonaise with their frites (but I've understood their mayonaise tastes really different so it might make sense there).
Most snackbars here don't seem to have bratwurst on the menu but we have very extensive lists of meat snacks to go with the frites. Personally I think our chippies are therefor superior. Also because our frites standard is thicker than those thin sloppy french frites (belgian frites are standard even more thick).

You can see this is a subject I am very passionate about.

    Hello,

I had my share of pizza at that time ;). Well, I use kebab as a synonym for doener (in english language), even though they are different things. I'm not sure how 'international' doener or doener kebab is. So folks, how do you call pita bread filled with lamb meat and veggies and stuff?

As I said, chips with vinegar and salt aren't that bad. It tastes different than what we have here. I would buy that variant every now and then if it would be available here. I never had frites in the Netherlands, the last time I was in Amsterdam I was a regular at an Indian restaurant ;). The Belgian frites are OK, no surprises there ;).

    Regards

Sloppy frites are simply not good fried 'pommes'! And yes, I feel kebab is used as a synonym for döner often here as well.

    Hello,

a battered sausage is a deep-fried Mars bar? Na, just kidding ;). We should start a chips tasting road tour all over Europe ;).

I took a search for scottish chips full of suspicion of course (how can they beat dutch chips) and am glad to say their proportions seem very much the same!:

They seem to have the right substance :cheers2:
