The man is totally left field and i really like his ambient sound, does anyone know of any experimental groups like his, purely old school, tape loops and lsd kinda setup.

Terry Riley is such an influence to modern electronic music.

Terry Riley was a big influence to people like Brian Eno, who expanded on many of Riley's concepts using tape loops and delay systems.

Eno's work with King Crimson's Robert Fripp, in which Eno presented his own Fripptronics delay system, is a lot like this, as is Eno's Discreet Music album.

Terry Riley also had a big influence on some of the more popular music of the past 40 years as well. The Who's Pete Townshend in particular is a huge admirer of Terry Riley, and you can hear some very Rileyesque synthesizers on the Who's Next album, namely on 'Baba O'Riley.'
