but, yeah, if a woman wants to hit a man, she should be prepared to get hit back.
but having said that, the difference in physical size/strength should also be considered.
It's a lot easier for a man to do real serious injury to a woman with bare hands than the other way around.

 

That would depend on the size of the woman and the man in question...

 

Actually humans are pretty frail creatures. Sometimes it doesn't take that much of a blow to the head to cause brain damage or even death from brain trauma.

True, but when comparing my fist with the wifes, mine would cover half her head, while hers only about 25-30% of mine, (she has small hands).

There are always exceptions and I agree with autophobe, any violence is wrong.
I'm just talking the average man and woman comparison.

I have seen abuse of woman first hand from a couple of different "friends".

Once during a small party one of my friends, Eddie, knocked his girlfriend to the floor and started stomping her, in my fucking house!!!

I ran over threw him against a wall and told him I wasn't going to stand for that shit.
He gave me the longest evil eye look, then left.
Everyone else was standing around, jaws gaping in disbelief that I did that considering Eddie was a martial arts master, Bruce Lee caliber, and could have easily killed me on the spot.

I just said, "He can kick my ass all day, but I'm not going to watch him take a boot to a woman!, you bunch of fuckin' pussies!!!"

Later I privately did the whole "OH FUCK!" thing and nearly pissed myself thinking about what could have happened. Saw the guy put his arm into wet sand past his elbow with three punches.
If he did that to my face.......

I was 18 at the time, Eddie was 26 and we remained close friends until his death a few years later from a self inflicted gunshot, and he told me he had a lot of respect for me stopping him like I did.


Conversely, I have seen another friend couple get into a slapping fight and it was an even match, so we just watched.

If you knew him and the personal demons he battled, you would have remained his friend as well. Not trying to justifying that incident, but there were many, many deep layers involved.
I know you are the kind of person to stick with friends when they need it the most. :2thumbsup:

I'd attempt to restrain a girl initially rather than hit her although if she aimed for sensitive regions it's possible I'd throw a fist.

I have a thought experiment which I hope that those respond try to drop their notions regarding social norms as much as possible, although on an issue like this which is pretty deeply engrained in the culture it may be difficult...

Scientific evidence suggests that physical and emotional pain are processed through similar pathways in the brain, assuming that to be accurate, should there be a threshold of verbal abuse or other non-physical abuse a woman inflicts causing emotional pain which would warrant a physical defensive response?

(Remember this is just a thought experiment)
