There are about 45 houses in my neighborhood. I've lived here since 1985.

My daughter and her son live with me.

My son, his wife, and 4 daughters live next door.

There are a few more kids that my kids went to school with who have stayed in the neighborhood. It's pretty nice seeing their kids at the bus stop with my grandkids.

There is a mixture of people in the neighborhood. Several of them have lived here longer than myself. We are Euro Americans by heritage.

There are some African American families in the neighborhood. There was a Mexican family that I knew but they moved out. There is one Puerto Rican/Columbian family that I know. The neighbors on the other side of me are Vietnamese.

Our neighborhood is super quiet and it's still very nice to live here.

I have an elderly woman as a neighbour on one side & my previous boss on the other.
I live on a corner section & have a good view of people passing by & vehicles as well.
Its a nice neighbour hood but there are the odd parties in it sometimes.

Also, there are two families of kids near me that are home schooled.

One of the families has two boys and one of them has something that looks like Cerebral Palsy.

The other family are Baptists who think they're kids are too good for this world.

I've lived in my present home for a year now. It's a really quiet area compared to where I moved from even though it's closer to town. At my last place I had one neigbor in an old Victorian about a hundred yards to the left, but they were Flordia snow birds so we only saw them about 5 months out of the year. They had a house next to them. On the right there was a house a half mile away, then another another half mile, then one about 2 miles. So we could only see one house. There was a methane extraction plant about a mile away so you could hear that sometimes.
Then the gas fracking started, and the tri axles, and dust so we left.
Then there was my home previous to that....but that is another story.

Now there is the original farm house about 50 yards away on the left with three school age kids. They get picked up in one of those little school buses and run around the yard a lot. Never talked to their parents.
On the right is the "trash house" about a hundred yards away. Can't see much of it because of the pine trees. Looks like "the boy friend" just got kicked out as his three trailers, old tires, and log splitter have disappeared. So that's good.
Across the street is a nice couple. He has a four bay detached garage and attached two bay. He has a huge mill, lathe, car lift, etc. So sometimes I can hear him banging away on the truck he's restoring.

The rest of the hood has nice people, we've been invited to two parties so far.

I live on a dead end road by the Lake. To my East is an older lady who sold all the land around her so we could all have a place to build, she is close to 90 and hardly ever gets out of her house. Next door was a family but the girl grew up, got married and moved on. Her mother had some kind of brain sugery a few years back and isn't all there all the time, he husband passed two years ago. She is a good neighbor though. Then next to her are a couple more retired couples and that is really about it.

I (we) live in an appartment building with 5 storeys and 3 separate entrances. I've lived here for almost 3 years now and still don't know all the people who live here. I do recognize those from my entrance, though. We say hi, sometimes chat for a bit and they are all really nice. I know some of them by names but mostly they are just people that live in the same building as I do.

In our level the flat next to ours is empty and in the third flat lives family of 4 - the parents always seem quite serious. They have two sons, the younger one plays football (soccer).

Right under us lives an older couple. The lady likes to cook and sometimes we can smell it in the hallway. The other appartment is a home to a middle aged couple with grown up daughter. I think she's a lesbian but I haven't really talked to her and don't see her much so it's just my assumption. Her mother is really nice and well organized and I've seen the husband maybe twice.

The ground floor has 3 apartments - in 2 live families of 3, both with small children. One couple has an autistic child that is around 4 years old and gets upset when people don't close the front door. The other couple has a really cute daughter. The father has his own company and is also our janitor. He's friends with everyone and is the neighbour I see/know the most.
In the third flat lives another family of 4. I know the mother is a doctor, they have two sons and one of them looks like Harry Potter.

Above us is a family of 4 with two teenage children - a girl and a boy. They like to quarrel when their parents aren't at home and at that time they shout, stomp, slam the door, etc. The building is quite new and has good acoustic insulation, so there's no way you could hear loud talking, music or TV from another flat. People have had full blown parties in their flats, that no one heard, but those two somehow manage to get louder than that.
They're starting to outgrow it, though, which is a relief. :2thumbsup: Their mother is microbiologist, that's all I know about her, really, and some of the neighbours consider their father to be a bit difficult. I really don't know what that's all about, because we only had good experience with him.

Among people who live above us is a family with 3 young children. The parents are really active and sporty and we often see the whole family going away for the weekend with canoes or bikes on their car.
Another family has a really cute daughter who must be around 5. She likes to smile and chat with me. The mother is always well dressed and tidy, while her husband likes to drink bear with other neighbours on the bench in our front yard/parking lot.
There's also a young woman who lives alone and likes to go to church. We have another older lady, who takes care of the flowers around the building. I'm not sure whether she lives with anyone or not.
I think that's everybody. At least it's everybody I've seen so far :)

PS: I have just remembered that somebody in our building plays the piano but I haven't yet figured out who.

    Weirdest neighbour competition?

Seriously, my neighbour Gerald cut his dick off, and changed his name to Sharon...

Now can I claim my prize?
(preferably NOT a date with "Sharon")

Thinking of the song, this is one case where neighbours certainly did NOT become good friends...

I know a guy across the road who used to sell me weed.I think he's gone back to prison as his cell phone is unobtainable and I haven't seen him for a while. His kids play football outside my block and they know me by my name, they usually say Hi.Other than that it's just random lower-middle class people, the odd crackhead and a few emo-teens with skinny jeans and mathematically impossible asymmetrical haircuts.

Haha My grandma's oncology doctor also recently made the transition from he to she. They're not neighbors, but it's kind of awkward.

Man and I thought I for sure had the contest won with the deaf guy across the street and the strange noises he was making the other day while doing yard work. Not sure if he was singing (I'd never heard him make a sound before so I'm guessing he may have a hearing aid these days), talking to his dogs, ranting about something... I know he wasn't hurt, it was just surprising and almost joyful to hear him making noise.

Oh and I forget to mention Norman. He lives in the apartment downstairs in my block. He is senile, totally crazy old man,but harmless.I occasionally invite him in for a cigarette and a cup of coffee. He's a character, but I can usually get some sense out of him.He likes to draw and as I have loads of art materials I let him draw.

The houses on either side of me are student rentals. Some years are better than others, we'll just leave it at that.

Behind me (my driveway is off a laneway between two streets behind my house) is a couple in their late 60's. They are quite nice, friendly people, sometimes offering advice that I don't take. :D He is out walking their dog several times a day and they drive a Prius.

Across the street are more rentals that were recently sold as a lot and we went to a town meeting to protest the tearing down of these 5 houses and building shitty student apartments. Really cramped spaces for high rents. The builders need the zoning to be changed, I hope to hell they don't get it.

Hmmm, well to my right are a brother and sister fresh out of college. Their father put them in there after his mother-in-law whom they bought the house for had to be "placed" elsewhere. I remember the day it was decided. I came walking home one afternoon to see a police car in the middle of the street in front of my driveway, engine running, door open. As I walked up to my house I am greeted by a cop with his gun pointed at my face as he came out from the side of my house. After a quick question and answer I let him know that there weren't any armed men trying to break into her house and that he is about the tenth cop to come out in the last two months for something like this.
Within a week she was living with relatives again.

On the other side we have Ron. Ron is an asshole, plain and simple. His dad was cool, but all the kids (all adults, 40-60) have the most pretentious sense of entitlement ever.
And they are all generally stupid. In one of the few civil conversation I have had with Ron over the years he was impressing me  with all the computer consultancy and security, software development, etc. work he was doing.
I listened and then asked him, "is your network "the captain" ?" He replied "yes". I said "Oh, ok, my kids have been using your wireless connection to surf the web for months now, maybe you should secure your router." LOL
He had a Vote for Romney yard sign up and his brother is a DEA agent, need I say more.

Directly across the street the house is sadly now empty. Mr. & Mrs. P lived there and Mr. P finally lost his decades long battle with heart disease and diabetes, which left him scarred and minus one leg to a stroke about a year ago. About 9 months later, as her granddaughter went to run some errands for about an hour, she returned to find that her grandmother had left to join Mr. P.
I miss hearing the oldies blaring from her house on the weekends or how she would boldly walk out to any unfamiliar cars sitting in the neighborhood and ask them what their business is, often with a bat in hand, always with paper and pencil to right down license plate #'s. As the kids in the area grew older, she didn't do that as much, but woe to the fool who crossed that guardian mama bear!
You are missed more than you know Mrs. P.:(

On the right side of the P's house are an odd mixed race couple. Wife black, hubby white. They have three kids and ranging from about 7-13 and they have only in the last couple of years allowed the kids out of the house to play and even play with other kids on the street. GASP!! Yeah, she is that weird about stuff. She suffers from reverse, militant racism. She is so certain that her and her kids wouldn't be accepted that she adopted a very bold offensive and cold front. My wife has spoken to her before and had her just walk away as if there wasn't anyone there. Strange bitch. The husband and kids are fine.

On the other side is R & C. They are two of the most genuine and nicest people I have ever met. R is about 12 years older than me and retired. He is a teen/twentysomething of the sixties and has regaled me with tales of taking the original Orange Sunshine and tripping his butt off. He is one of the few individuals I have ever met who really lives the "enlightened psychedelic" life style if you will. He doesn't trip anymore, just quit smoking weed recently, but his outlook and frame of mind are very centered and "right" for lack of better adjectives. They are the ones who will bring food to sick neighbors, do the shopping for ya, etc. Hell when I first met R he did a bunch of drywall work, about $3000 worth and refused to take a dime from me. They are good people.

A few houses down from them is the drug dealers house. Just last month they all got hauled to jail for sales after being under surveillance for months. Now they are all back it appears and it's fucking business as usual!
Now I am not opposed to recreational drug use, of course. But they are selling meth and/or coke and that brings people into this area that don't belong here. More than a few neighbors have been woken up by some ghetto gangster rapping on windows or calling into windows because the idiots went to the wrong house. Just happened to me a week ago. Maybe it's time to reinvest in firearms.
