I few day ago I started filling in an online form to collect free shopping vouchers for Myers department store. I did not finish filling in the form as they were asking too many questions but I did get as far as putting in my telephone number. The number I put in was for my USB 3G dongle.I keep seeing these massages at the bottom right hand corner saying I missed a call from this or that number that I know to be a telemarketer. It must be annoying for them.

fuck telemarketers. sometimes I actually enjoy actually answering the phone, just so i can waste some of their time by pretending I'm interested for a minute and then telling them I was never really interested in the first place and just wanted to gather some information about how they operate.

normally those forms come with a nsty little cookie that gathers all available info on you.

But yeah it must annoying to them, I read an article about a guy who set up a premium rate number and used it on those forms, then he answered the phone all the time and he made a small fortune. LOL maybe that's the way to go

    I also have a landline.

I don't plug in a phone though. It was bundled with my internet/tv/cable package.

you can sign the national do not call list and then if they continue to call you can actually join a class action law suit as it is illegal to call anyone on the do not call registry.

I do feel sorry for telemarketers though and never understood why people are so mean to them. They're just doing their jobs and you know they hate every minute of it.

Worked in telesales for about 8 months, it wasn't completely cold calling people, but close enough.

That 5-30 second conversation that annoys you so much? imagine having to have that conversation for 8 hours every weekday for bullshit pay.

    don't fuck with telemarketers.

    don't be a twat.

I feel bad for the person calling. Yes it's annoying but I think it's easy to forget that is just some one who really needed a job. So much so they are working someplace probably for minium wage plus commissions which rarely if ever come because everyone hangs up or trolls them. Their boss then says it is their problem people are not buying because the company system works if you work it. The "system" being the line of bull shit they have to say over and over. Just staring at a computer screen as a program auto dials every phone number on the list.

But I have done my share of trolling too. My grandfather once told a women calling that she would "make more money on the street corner then this shitty job". He never got a call back from that company. People say I have his sense of humor

Haha. People hate me to, in real life. The car salesman is despised as much as a telemarketer. But I have shiny new trucks with Diesel engines. They can't top that.

a poor country is one in which you need to be rich to get by. a rich country is one in which you don't.
that people have to torture each other with marketing to get by, this is not a rich world or country.
it could be if people didn't want to turn every street into a free fire war zone.
a tiny fraction of the largest countries military budget could build a paradise of public transportation in harmony with a healthy and thriving nature.

yes i don't like that there is such a thing as telemarketing.
someone gave me one of those fancy phones. an android.
tried to get it hooked up to a service.
the username and pw the gave me to log on to pay for their service doesn't work.
but sending me threatening e-mails seems to work just fine.
and they still haven't actually provided any of the service they want me to pay, supposedly for.

what all of that has to do with telemarketing, is simply that the other paw is that i'm not being plagued by it.
i don't mind not having a phone, i only wanted it so i could be contacted about place to move,
but it does annoy me, to be threated with collection agencies, through no fault of my own,
for a service that has yet to be provided.

My line of thinking on the issue goes like this:

    a) Telemarketing is an imposition on strangers.
    b) At worst they are scams, and at best they trying to sell products at highly inflated prices (a common one in Canada is gas companies trying to sell natural gas contracts at over 3 times the market rate). These are often targeted at the less sophisticated (especially the elderly).

Telemarketers have chosen to work in a profession that annoys and exploits people. They can go fuck themselves.

To say people "choose" telemarketing is kind of a liberal use of the word choose. Its not like people routinely have the option to work their dream job or become a telemarketer and decide telemarketing is the better option.

people work telemarketing because it pays slightly better than working fast food and they need an income. Because without an income, well, you know what happens.

you really don't believe people take jobs because there are no better options? And you think telemarketers actually want to hear people like you give them shit all day? That's a little disconnected from reality but whatever makes you feel good about giving telemarketers shit.

There are better options. People choose not to exercise them (primarily relocation and education), either through ignorance or laziness or poor choices.
