Hey Distorted, Glad ya showed up here. Interesting place with a good (and somrtimes not so good) cross section of people. A young man of 19 years gets to make some important, formative decisions regarding the course of his life. Getting lots of exposure to other people is an vital part of making healthy choices about who you wanna be. Have fun here bubba and welcome.
There does seem to be a new hippie thing going on amongst teens. Unfortunately, it seems just to be a fashion trend at my school. They're all too concerned with their little cliques and drama than notice the world around them. :\
Thank you I'm hoping I make the right decisions, only time will tell but I'm happy with the decisions I've made up to this point in my life. Hope to see yah around.
I think all those people who dress kinda hippie-dippy do it because it's In-Style, not because it's their Style. In-Style and Style are two very different things. They wear Peace signs because it's in. I do, because I want Tolerance and Love. They wear florals because it's pretty. I wear floral patterns because I adore flowers- the idea, look, the smell, the taste It doesn't really reflect them. Most who wear peace signs don't even give a damn about war.
I don't see a big deal anymore, seriously, with the people that dress only for the style. Some people are just materialistic like that, and you can't be the one to judge them. Materialism isn't the best way to live, but you can't say you have it 100% correct, either.
Well, they're wearing what they think is nice, cool, or whatever. That's their reason. We wear it because it reflects upon us, and maybe because it looks nice. Also, ya can't say we're not materialistic at all, obviously.
I hope this thread ain't dead 'cause it's a good one. I was made a hippie by my pot-smoking, authority-hating, hitch-hiking good ol' DAD. I hang out with people I can learn from, whether they agree with my choices or not (but most of them do). My love for letting my freak flag fly will never die.
So, here's a thread for the young'uns like me to communicate. So, a few questions to all ye fellows Who really impacted your life to mold you into a hippy? How do your friends treat you, and who do you hang around with? Do you think it'll last? I guess different things molded me to a hippy. Other then the fact that i feel i was born to be this way, because ive always been soft hearted, pro environment, into 60s and 70s music, my dad showed me the Dazed and Confused movie when i was 9 or so. He told me they were hippies, so i looked up hippies online n found out about the music n the weed use. N i just felt like this is who i am. I dont really hang out with anyone anymore cus im not anything like the kids i live around there all so cliche. Wannabe black white kids, skaters into metal with gaged piercings, none i found to be interesting. I have a girl n she knows about it n supports it n im tryin to get her into it. shes never smoked before tho. thats the first step i think, lol.
I have been this way since I was a child. Never really put a title on it. It was not until my High School years that I started to notice people referring to me as that 'hippie chick' and well it just kind of stuck. Guess I should of figured it out back when I was 8. I started on my path towards vegetarianism and yelled at my history teacher for not providing a 'green party' option in our political spectrum quiz...
Chris Del Moro(vegetarianism) My friends treat me ok. I would like friends that are alittle more like me though :I. It will probably last till i die.
C'mon why did this thread die? im bringin it back up! hahah Who really impacted your life to mold you into a hippy? My parents with their amazing musical tastes!! My momma loves Bob Marley, and my Dad got me into Pink Floyd, Zeppelin and Frank Zappa, all the other bands just filled in from there. But I noticed ever since I was a kid I looked up to Cartoon charecters that gave off that "stoner" vibe, like Shaggy off of scooby doo for example, always was my favorite charector, always looked up to people who I later learnt were stoners and somewhat "Hippie" How do your friends treat you, and who do you hang around with? I live in Saskatchewan, Canada. So short hair, Country music and drinking alot is key to living here. Ive never liked any of it so I did my own thing. My buds dont mind it but theres hardly a day I dont hear "Cut your hair you hippie" from somebody! Do you think it'll last? Oh fuckity fuck yeah!! theres no way im ever giving up on what I beleive in!
Oh and SOmething Ive noticed is when most of us get to the friends question, we all have an alike answer as "I tend to keep t myself, nobody I know has the same veiws, they like metal , country, and drinking". well shit, where are you people!? we all need to come together!
I really do not know what turned me onto the hippie ideals/lifestyle. untill i was 13 i listened to my dads music (rolling stones, eric clapton, elvis costello) so, music wise, i had a good start in life. When i was 13 my parents rented 'The Doors' film by oliver stone, this turned my onto the doors which led to me listening to jefferson areoplane, grateful dead, bob dylan, hendirx, you name it. i started smoking pot (not because i thought 'it was hippie' just my freinds turned me onto it) and i experimented with physcs. I started reading lots of, i dont know, umm...Bohemian literitur? and that really turned me onto the hippie lifestyle, living off the grid, traveling, not being tied down, being free to pack up my shit, fill up the tank on my VW and just drive werever i feel like going. i just love the aspect of being free, ya know? not being tied down with some corparate job, a mortgage, house. and yeah...i know its not a phase aha, since i started smoking pot some of my 'freinds' treat me different, but most of my freinds are cool with it and aha they call me a 'dirty smelly hippie' jokingly every now and then aha
oh yh and i have no 'hippie' freinds, but i have a few umm...stoner freinds i guess? ( lots of weed, acid, shrooms, aha) and there the most 'hippie' guys i know
Like PinkZep said, Nature and well, I've always thought like one. Logic prevented me from thinking any other way. The music I grew up with didn't hurt either. Now I don't know if its because I live in a community of followers, but not giving a shit really seems to set an example. It seems people start hanging around me, then shoes start coming off and they'll even eat the native plants I pick from random places (quite a paradigm shift). If nothing else, people around me usually start to eat healthier and be themselves more. Nothing is better than being able to make an impact by just being me.
