i don't watch tv. i watch lots of movies. but i don't just sit and watch a movie unless it's the first time i've seen it, i usually write or draw or read or make something at the same time. and i can't really just sit down and watch the whole thing at once. there are only a few movies i like... i won't watch mainstream new movies, they're garbage for the most part. scary movies and romantic comedies are so crappy. but i love the internet. no commercials, and you can find or create ANYTHING.

just spare a thought for the poor suckers in the united kingdom - they have to pay money to use a television, they have to have a licence. the british government has vans driving around of a night with an aerial picking up the emissions of illegal tv sets and you get fined if they can prove you've got and are using a tv in your house/ whatever. remember "v for vendetta"? they didn't need to look far for inspiration on the sorry state of the nation.

yeah... and the funny thing is it probably costs as much to employ the spies, buy equiptment and vans as they get from TV licences.

    holy shit guy,
Would one have to pay a license in the UK if all they're using the tele for is to watch dvd's or play games? Makes ya wanna heave the thing out the window.

i like TV to watch a few favorite shows here and there (70's show, Family Guy and Simpsons) so saying 3 hours a week is generous. There really is alot of better things to do, such as 'Socialize' ;)

No cable, two sets of rabbit ears. We just watch movies anyways.
We do eventually need a larger television. The one I have is color, it's got hookups, but only has a five inch screen. :/ It's portable. :)

I watch it each day, one or two shows and that's it. I feel embarrassed and ashamed when I do any more than that.

I watch TV, and don't see that as a bad thing in itself. The excessive amount of television that a lot of people watch, as well as how much money people spend on televisions, is the problem. My own tv is rather small and inexpensive, and I get basic cable, since I live in a college dorm.

lol I live with my parents again so I don't really pay for it(if you count the 320$ a month I pay for rent then maybe). I lived on my own a couple months back. I paid for it. I only watched either comedy or music channels and occaisonnally the odd movie, wwe ppv, or episode of star trek but I can totally go without paying or having tv. I won my 13" tv in high school and traded it to my brother for a stereo.

I own a TV, and this house does have cable, but I'm not the one who watches it. I do, on the other hand, use the TV for watching foreign films. However, I will never ever watch television (unless I need to check The Weather Network for the tempreature etc).

We have a tv but we mainly watch movies on it. We joined Netflix last year and were so excited when we saw the wide range of independant films as well as documentaries they had.

I also discovered a few tv series on dvd that we have been enjoying through Netflix as well.

Personally, I think there is nothing wrong with enjoying television as long as you do it in moderation. Quality and content of shows makes a huge difference too.

It’s amazing how society is addicted to TV. I recently decided that I should stop wasting my life and pick up a book. I’ve limited my television time to that 70’s show and the occasional discovery channel or animal planet special.

With the current rift between republicans and democrats, American news is so full of misinformation and propaganda. Factual integrity in American media is so lost right now it’s sickening!

The most intelligent show I’ve seen come out of the USA in years has to be a few select episodes of South Park!!

As far as paying for commercial subscriptions read this

I’m absolutely appalled by the TV industry. Listening to the industry complain about this sort of stuff (Piracy) is like listening to fat man complain about being hungry after eating a bucket of chicken.

They get paid twice for the same job! They make billions on commercials (how TV was invented and meant to run from the beginning), and now they make billions in subscription packages. I was shocked to the bone the first time I heard that Networks CHARGE PROVIDERS and force them to bundle channels to be included in their contracts. Wouldn’t you think that a COMMERCIAL NETWORK would be happy to have it’s viewer base increased by a sat provider so even more people can view these already Paid For Programs” Wouldn’t an advertiser who’s paid good money for air time want as many people as possible to see their ads? I would go as far to say that these networks should be paying the providers for getting their signal out to more people.

There are families paying well over $50 a month for commercial network packages, they are the ones being robbed, robbed blind.

And I think the whole PVR threat to commercials is BS too. I’d be willing to bet even people with PVR’s still watch live TV most of the time. The average person just wants to crash on the couch and flick through channels more often than to just watch pre-recorded material.

It sickens me how much Corporate North America has become focused on hooking monthly subscriptions. Every damn place you turn it’s monthly fee this … montly fee that… I’m going to charge you twice as much as it’s worth for you to smell my crap, but act now and I’ll do you a FAVOR and let you SAVE 50% if you sign a monthly contract to smell my wonderful crap!!!! The TV industry, the phone company, the banks… all a bunch of crooks!!!!

Someone needs to organize a committee to put pressure on our governments to make it illegal for these corporations to encrypt commercial programming networks. What they’re doing right now is nothing more than legalized robbery. Now with the US Government talking about auctioning off TV frequencies, we need a force to protect and inform the public and keep these subscription happy CROOKS in check. They’ve gotten away with too much for too long and things are looking even worse for the future unless our governments step up and decide to champion for the common man and not billionaire corporations.

if I watch any television (normally it's less than an hour a week, if that much) then it would be simpsons, family guy, south park, or something on history/discovery channels... but I've tuned it out for the most part, it's very unproductive and with subliminal messages being fed into our brains to create sudden urges to by this or pay to become that, I find it virtually useless.

The channel I fear the most, for the wellbeing of this society - MTV - let's just all become bitches and hoes, get knocked up to 3 different guys and end up on welfare, single and unwanted. What a great message MTV is putting out there. Look at the girls nowadays, 10-12 yr olds wearing shit with shit written across their ass or chest - FUCK THAT! And what the hell is wrong with the parents who let them?

it might not appear to be a problem now, but just wait and see in 10 years how many single moms there are. sad. very freaking sad. MTV is the biggest bunch of negative shit a young mind will never benefit a fucking thing from.

I purposely avoid ever watching TV and I haven't for some time. I do spend too much time online though. Which I'm working on.
