Wondering if you guys have got any ideas on how to go about teaching a kid (I think he's around 7 or 8) art. Got talking to a little guy watching me paint at the market yesterday, was pretty cute cos he went and got a chair and sat behind me for about half an hour :daisy: Anyway, got talking to his parents and they say he's pretty damn good for his age, and very keen. Ended up offering my services as a tutor of some description. I've been wanting to head into teaching, but I was thinking 16+ish simply because they then know more or less where they stand. I'm feeling a little bit wary of the impressionability of kids as I don't want to place them in a box, which is inevitable, but I at least want to poke as many eyeholes through that box as possible. I have a vague idea of where I'm going to go with it - as hands off as possible, rather pointing focus to see the character of the moment, which is always great fun so I think it'll keep things at least vaguely entertaining. I think that way it keeps things open for him to indulge in himself, but in a stimulating way. Other than that though, I'd like to ask any parents or teachers out there for any little things you've picked up along the way to help kids form the most streamlined path for them to explore things themselves.. which angle to come from essentially, and anything else you may think to be relevant! Never done this before so anything would be appreciated :2thumbsup:
I think you are already on the right track. Kids need to be free to explore and form ways to express, art is a wonderful way for them to do this. Allow the child to learn but also to express as they see it. We all learn from a positive environment. Keep it fun especially until you know them a little better and then offer what you can to help the child continue to not only enjoy but also to learn in a positive way. I think you will both take away positives from this.
Have fun......it is all about finding the creativity inside each person......freedom and finding one's own inner voice...... but if you are wanting to teach certain techniques and light in paintings, that is quite different. You will do fine!
A couple of giraffe running into the distance, very dusty and atmospheric.. I'm liking where it's going And cool bananas, thanks guys.. it's encouraging to hear. Must admit I'm kinda looking forward to it, he's an easy going little dude. Inquisitive. I like that
provide access to useful information they're interested in. and how to stay out of trouble. as much as you can, how things actually work, and as much as you can, avoid trying to pass on your own perspectives and prefereneces. i know the latter is the hardest thing to avoid, but i really believe, more then anything else, screws all of us up.
