I really tired of hearing about Taylor Swift. Good on her for her success, but I don't care about a woman who is constantly writing songs about break ups and moving on. Does anyone else feel the same?
I dont mind her, catch myself humming along sometimes if shes on the radio. .........buuuuuuuuuuuuuut, is she seriously the apex of popular music nowadays? Her Katie Perry, Ed Sheeran, personally, those three especially, who seem to be the biggest stars nowadays......they are all so fuckin boring as people. Long gone are the days when the worlds biggest pop stars were sleeping in oxygen tanks with chimpanzees, taking mushies with gurus in India, or having coke fueled orgies and trashing hotel rooms Dafuq is wrong with music nowadays?
Tasteless, talentless garbage which is a product of the industry. People like this music basically because it's marketed to them as something "popular" and trendy. And the fact that most people are dumbed-down idiots with no taste, who have not a clue as to what makes good music GOOD. Most people aren't even aware of a fraction of the music that's out there because it hasn't been shoved in their faces like the crap that predominates. For anything to be popular and mainstream these days, it would appear to be a requirement that it is absolutely devoid of substance. The only real music being made these days is by independent label artists. This is the only modern-day music worth paying attention to. Taylor Swift is merely a pop-culture entertainer and nothing more. I think it's her image that sells more than the shit she churns out, which somehow manages to be passed off as music.
She is very appealing to a big portion of pop music consumers. It's easy to become popular when you identify yourself as one of the masses. Awkward, nice, pretty girl who is figuring out life and her relationship with boys. Whatever. She's catchy. I was never caught in the whole "breaking up", "men are asses" drama of adolescence. Don't date fake assholes if you don't want your heart broken. It's actually very simple. Consequently, I can't really relate to her or her music. She doesn't really run below the surface. -shrug- Her "Shake it Off" song is pretty catchy though.
Mostly young girls will listen to this and then hopefully they will grow out of it and develop their taste. It's pretty cynical how this stuff is marketed though. The industry chooses who gets exposure and who will be successful. If you don't fit their criteria on looks and content you haven't really got a chance.Thankfully some good artists do break through due to force of will and wide clued up fanbase.I have no ill will towards Taylor.I'm sure she's a nice young lady.I hope she's happy and got what she wanted.I just won't be listening. The poignancy of young heartbreak is too much to bear, the expectations of a youth on the cusp of love and lousy boyfriends, which I once was myself.Jo Jo did it better, had better melodies and could really sing.
On the flipside, Slipknot released their latest album last week, was surprised at how good it is. At the end of the video for The Devil in I, the clown sets himself on fire then hangs himself, I was like, OK, thats what it takes to shock audiences nowadays. The song or the album made it to No 1
Haha Slipknot! Isn't that metal music for drama teens (so in some way the metal variety of taylor twist, just like Green day or Good charlotte is/was the apex of popular 'punk' music)? Anyway, I can relate to such feelings if I were to be confronted with her music and private life all the time but happily I am not. It seems easy to ignore.
