You know how many losers would be happy getting 24,000 a year for doing nothing. And just because I get of the couch and go to work I have to pay more, no thanks.

Why not just have a across the board % be it 10, 15, or 20%. Not deduction, just the same percentage for everyone.

Well, as a person who would really like to eat more, and who spends any 'extra' money they get to furthering that goal, I can definately say that I don't think I should be paying the same tax rate as someone who is wondering what color their 5th car should be....

Those who are making 6 digits and above, are doing so only because of the rest of society... the ones who arent making 6 digits...

Would you pass by a person who was starving and tell them to go get a job, or would you help them?

    Simple question...

I have always supported the need for a minimal guaranteed income. I believe that all should be above poverty level and be able to sustain life. Any person who makes a contribution to society should be above poverty level.

I do not support the higher taxation of upper income earners. That is an over simplification of the issue.

The systems that are in place are broken, in that the monies directed to lower income earners are not well spent and that system needs to changed, drastically. It does not work in it's present state.

It is not tax dollars already collected it is the distribution of funds and programs that are faulty.

The down fall of society is going to be people rich or poor not wanting to pay their fair share.
Tom this extra money you're using to buy your rice and millet, is that before or after you pay the internet bill or the bag weed you get for the month. Don't worry Tom, today society will not let you starve

ahhh yes... and here is the problem that people keep skirting around...

Those who bitch and moan about ideas like this, arent actually concerned about what they claim to be.... They just.... even though it goes against everything they say they beleive... feel that they have a right to nanny others...

Your hypocricy screams louder then the words you try to use.

People die in canada, the US and every other 'civilized' nation every day from starvation and deprivation of needs...

People who actually care about others, rather then just pay lip service to the idea of caring, understand that this is wrong, because we have the ability to put ourselves in their place and say "hey, I wouldnt like that to happen to me or those I care about, so I should try to stop it from happening to others"...

Others, look around and say, "If I had the opportunity, I would be a complete fuck up, so I better make sure others arent as moronic as I am".

See Jo King.... just because you would sit back with your thumb up your ass and do nothing if provided the opportunity while sucking off the teat of society... the majority of people are not that much of a lazy git.

    Something else I find amazing...

We currently give rich people tax breaks, incentives, bail outs and so on.... they get spent on cars, boats, parties, private jets, hookers, drugs and so forth... all you have to do is read through the news to see examples of this happening.

Yet, when someone suggests helping those who are in need of basic needs, people start screaming about how the poor will abuse it.

    Really?

Although I agree about the distribution part, I totally disagree with the assertion that the collection as it is makes any sense at all.

Forget that this is about cash... translate it to what that cash represents... the labor of people...

A person gets rich and wealthy in this society by taking the efforts of others labours for themselves, and away from those who do the actual labor.

Those who do the labor, then cry about some of that labor being taken away from the rich (who did NOT perform the labor) even though they don't need it, and being given to those who truly do.

Because it isn't about what the person doing the labor loses, if it was, the arguments presented against this would be that they (those performing the labor) should get more from their own labor...

    BUT IT ISN'T... IS IT?

The argument presented is always the same... fuck the poor, I want my money going where it does now... to the rich...

All this shows, is how badly some of you have been brainwashed into feeding the rich with your labors.

There are many many people who work 50 or 60+ /hours a week, at minimum wage in order to just survive. Every dime they make, goes towards paying their bills, feeding themselves and their family... Meanwhile, you have people like doctors for example, who work 8 hours a week (have to keep time for golfing), make 10 or 20 TIMES what a person needs to live...

Do you think that makes sense?

Perhaps it is because doctors are so helpful and kind and caring that they deserve this, after all, their first concern is others health right?

But wait... anyone who deals with the medical system in any significant manner will tell you that doctors do not worry first about their patients health, they worry about their job, their leisure time, their golfing scores, their mistresses and so on.... long before the health of the person who has to do without in order to get medical care even comes into consideration.

Note that I picked doctors on this... I could have picked other examples... like Financial Investors... say like... Bernie Madoff... But instead, I chose to use the people who have the best argument for their side, which is helping others.

Funny how nobody jumped up and answer the simple question I put forth, but instead ignored it... just as they ignore the people who are actually starving...

Would you walk by and ignore a person who was starving to death, or would you stop to help them.

Me? I would stop and help them.... That same line of reasoning that leads me to stop and help them, is the same line of reasoning that I use when I ask myself what I would want to be done if I was making 500k+ a year.

The basis for that, is that EVERYONE should be entitled to survive, before ANYONE is entitled to filthy rich.

If that is hard for some to understand, that just proves they have have no form of empathy in their lives.

if that's the opinion you have of doctors, i think you must have been unlucky and dealt with shitty doctors for your entire life, because my doctor is nothing like that. or maybe I'm just lucky.

    You are just lucky...

You have the internet, use it... Find out what others go through in dealing with doctors.

Personally, I have dealth with more doctors then most 10 people do, and I have yet to see ONE that put their patients health over concerns about politics, their job, their money or their vacation time.

You want to claim that was just some backwater doctors in some hick town?

I've dealt with one of the top two melanoma experts in Canada... I've dealt with one of the top brain surgeons in Canada... I've dealt with senior doctors in some of the TOP hospitals in Canada... I've dealth with psychiatrists, pschologists, oncologists, surgeons, general practioners and so forth...

And you know what? I am totally comfortable telling you to ignore all that, and do some research into other peoples experiences in the medical world.

The results will be the same.

Yet, they still remain some of the highest paid (and lowest taxes) members of our society.

You talk of supposed hypocrisy in others Tom but fail to recognize it in yourself.
You talk of compassion, empathy, acceptance, cooperation yet your posts in this thread alone reflect that you don't practice any of these.

You went out of your way to type that you "can't help me" when it would have been simpler to say either "Yes, that is what I mean." or "No, that is not what I mean."

56olddog then asks the same question as I did.. that could make one think maybe this answer in the first post might not be that clear to recognize.

So you then say to his inquiry..

Just to be clear... those who don't have the ability to read... I shall just ignore.

So you will help the HYPOTHETICAL person starving on the street but not people that are functioning in reality who are being polite and trying to engage in discussion with you about your topic.

    Here is your question Tom;

Would you pass by a person who was starving and tell them to go get a job, or would you help them?

    Simple question...

So someone who has trouble reading and understanding things clearly doesn't deserve your help? Only the hypothetical starving do?

Jo King never said that he would sit on the couch and do nothing.

He typed:You know how many losers would be happy getting 24,000 a year for doing nothing. And just because I get of the couch and go to work I have to pay more, no thanks.

Let us say, hypothetically since that is the realm you operate in, that Jo King was a "lazy git", why not have the empathy for him that you claim to have?
By your hypotheticals, you want Jo King to be able to sit on the couch and do nothing with or without his thumb up his ass.

By your words in the reality that is the HipForums though, you are a hypocrite.

There is one thing that is clear to me; your anger is not helping anyone here.

Your words: I've dealth with psychiatrists, pschologists, oncologists, surgeons, general practioners and so forth...

Maybe next time you are "dealing" with psychiatrists and psychologists you can try and get some real help instead of thinking about how much money they make and what they do with it.

Maybe you can talk to them about how angry you are that they make more money than you.

Yours and the governments system of taxation is completely flawed.
I would agree with the poster above to have a set percent for everyone or maybe for different classes.

    like 1-2% poverty.
    3-4% middle class
    and 5% tops upper class

its bullshit, that im being taxed 35% on my investments as it is.. and im not even upper class yet

There are two seperate issues there...

It can be run by people, whatever you would like to call it, that is what a government is... well... could be. The problem is that it is being run by corporations which aren't just given the same rights as actual flesh and blood people, but have more rights and powers then individuals have. Stop that, remove corporate personhood and the associated seperation of liability, and then governments could be taken back for and become 'by the people'.

The other... having no taxes and private companies do everything. I shudder at the thought. Uncontrolled commerce and exploitation of raw materials for the benefit of one segmant of the population, especially when it is done to the detriment of the environment and people, was part of the path that got us where we are today, which is not a good place.

i disagree, if our government ran itself with the ideals of scientists and technology instead of ppr politics religion philosophy, the course every politician and even the pope takes to become skilled in controlling the masses, then we wouldnt even be raping the earth as much as we are today. things would be much greener and just less greedy, fuck i dont feel like typing pages and pages explaining my opinion here

i f i could create my own little world there would be no government and the wealthy would step in to help mankind on their own you know.. paying money to several private companies helping the smaller guys so theres no monopolies... everyone working together for ourselves...

why does the government need to collect our money to do things were perfectly capable of doing on our own huh? cause they like spending way more then neccessary the greedy bastards
