God it makes me really mad when people say tattoos are sleazy attempts at drawing attention to yourself and that only boring assholes with no personality or talent get them. That's just so not true. A lot of people get tattoos to remind them of important things, life events and stuff. For instance, my tattoo of dice reminds me of dice. My tattoo of a skeleton with a top hat reminds me of a skeleton with a top hat. My tattoo of my kids names (which is in chinese lettering on my back) reminds me that I've got kids....somewhere. And my tattoo of a koi reminds me of fish. See?
You're hilarious - so funny. I laughed out loud. Nearly fell off my damn chair! One of my biggest pet peeves, and if it does happen, and someone goes, "How long did that take?" I reply: ...Hmm?? "How much did that cost ya?" I reply: ...Hmm?? "You adding any more?" I reply: ...Hmmm?? Me: *looks down at my arm* OH MY GOOD GOD. WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT. IS THAT?? *rubs skin* DANG I THINK ITS PERMANENT. HOLY MOLY. THANKS SO MUCH FOR POINTING THAT OUT. :2thumbsup: Nobody is expected to explain their dreams to people, and nobody is expected to share their tattoo meaning to people. Society needs to get off their high horses and stop flattering themselves that people who get inked are doing it for their attention.
I don't mind when someone asks about my ink. It's personal, so I have it somewhere personal, and if you see it, I either wanted to show you, or let you see me topless. I love my tattoo so much, I really don't mind explaining it to anyone. But that's just me, and my way of doing things. We are all different. Eventually, my whole torso will be covered, and I suppose I will be asked more about it then, and I might change my tune. Peace be with you.
ive never met anyone with hard opinions against tattoos....it is so mainstream now that I question the intentions of many people that get inked and suspect it is a fashion statement more than it is a statement of lifestyle I liked it better when you were considered a bit of a bad ass if you got ink now every tom dick and suzy is getting ink.... reminds me of ear piercing.....I pierced my ear when I was 15 in 1974....I was the only dude in my high school that had it done in about 88 I stopped wearing it because by then every dude walking had pierced ears.... now these guys are wearing earrings in both ears just like my momma used to.... my lil rant....done....thanks
Deanstar LOL we talk about remembering something a lot more important than "I gotta pick-up the shirts at the dry cleaner tomorrow" or anything like that (this stuff is indeed post-it material). It could be a life lesson, a lost loved one, a symbol of one's faith, a value or principle that's fundamental to you, etc. The result could range from quotes to portraits of saints, from tribal symbols to astrological signs and anything in between.
