Watch out with chugging hot sauce....... I'm pretty sure that capaicin is a bit basic, and not going to be effected by this stuff.... so select carefully.
oh yeah, i meant to say, for harm reduction purposes, that one should not drink a whole bottle of pure lemon juice or anything else equally stupid after consuming these berries. the lemon juice will still be caustic to your mouth...as would hot sauce
I always like to test things like this on children first...if they are still standing after a few hours I give it a try myself. /s This must be why humans who were born without being able to taste bitter were weeded out by evolution. (I remembered one other thing we tried: wine. I actually tasted pretty bad, like overly sweet wine.)
poisonous things often taste bitter, so maybe that's the reason. i wouldn't really call hot sauce bitter
it should technically be, because it's basic. But not enough to notice, milk's basic too. Capsaicin binds to pain receptors, it basically tricks your nerves. I think most of it's irritating reaction is just your bodies reaction. I think you would need an obscene amount to do REAL harm.... but that obviously won't stop you from having a burning asshole, it irritates everything the whole way through.... I also think swelling of extremities and such after excessive consumption is because of other nightshade alkaloids, just like some people can't tolerate tomatoes.
i said in the bump thread, but not here. we tried these tablets. the only real impressive thing was how sweet lemons tasted. and how good lemon in water tasted - like sweet lemonade. beer was terrible. other things were mildly different. it gave our tongues an electric fuzzy feeling at first, and we were laughing like on a psychedelic come up
