Most of the time it doesn't even come close to actual predictions, it's a perceptional effect in my opinion. If you want to see the results you will, if your subconscious thinks otherwise you won't see any results.

I agree with this. My readings guide me to look more closely at what is going on in situations I'm in. They encourage me to look at motivations and to explore possible outcomes. These sessions are for learning how to see where you are, how you got there, and to help you determine where you might go from now.

Tarot is generally taboo, if you'd like to pretend otherwise I suppose I won't stop you.

I'd toss I-Ching with coins that had been immersed in cow crap for a decade and feel comfortable with the "response."

Listen, I love the smell of sage and often have used it while hitchhiking, camping, and whatnot -- but this connection between smudging and your tarot is simply not necessary.

If you want to smell nice and keep the bugs away, more power to you.

Really? Taboo in what circles? I'm being sincere and serious here... :2thumbsup:

    Taboo in "mainstream society"?

Taboo in the eyes of psychics?

I've never had a reading. I know very little about Tarot. I want to use them for myself.

I can say for certain at least that Tarot is taboo among conservative Christians. That's a fairly sizable subculture at this juncture.

I would at least want to wash the cow dung off my I-Ching coins before tossing, btw. Maybe it's just me...

for revelation christians have the gift of tongues . this is spirit language divinely inspired and spoken in trance ecstacy . to
translate such a message into common speech is poetic .

tarot could be translated into dance , and the dance
into words , and the poem at the end of all
that can be of very few words .

Taboo in the eyes of mainstream society and many of its subcultures.

I'd suggest buying yourself a deck or using a site like www.facade.com .

Use them to light your way, IMO.

Have someone experienced help you if you need, but don't believe everything that you hear.

Remember "The Hermit," if you ever get lost, and don't let the cards scare you too much.

Get ready for a wild ride, because it is likely to be that.

Thanks for the site link and the hermit card! I bought a book/deck set but feel no connection to it.

Oops, didn't realize you were the original poster. Don't worry about a connection to a deck of cards. They will work.

If you need another instruction guide, find one that seems wisest. Personally, I do it "free form."

It isn't hocus-pocus. They will genuinely work. You'll see. Don't be too scared of them -- they are simply a device, like a screwdriver or a lamp.

To be quite honest, there are only two necessary items: you and the deck. You will come to understand them, in your own way.

I'm sure that after you use them, you will have some serious questions about the universe. It is only natural.

Also, I find that generally being secretive about them is beneficial. People have widely varied and negative opinions about them.

You can always bless them with sage. Whenever I obtain something new I always use the following prayer
"I cleanse, consecrate, and empower -this object- in the name of Baphomet and the Mother Goddess. May all their blessings reside within thee. May it only be used with the purest of intent, and guide me down the path that can best help others. Let it not be tainted by negativity or allow it's use to be influenced by anything other than perfect love, trust, healing, and positive energy. In the name of the God and Goddess, so mote it be!"

I'd recommend you write your own blessing prayer and make sure it is specific enough. It is always good to pray before you use your cards.

I always meditate to clear myself of negativity and say "Dear Tarot, I am at a crossroad. Please help me see a perfect truth, give me clarity and accuracy so that I may better understand your message. Show me an outcome that can benefit all parties involved and help guide me so that I may act with wisdom and good intent."

And if you're going to use tarot, you need to remember, they are just cards, pieces of cardboard with pictures on them, all the magick and power comes from within you! Not the cards themselves. They are a tool used to aid us in objectivity and help us see a path that was clouded by doubt or fear, they themselves are NOT magickal!

 are you a templar? In connection with Golden Dawn, maybe Goetia?

I've heard so much of the golden dawn and get asked if I'm apart of it so many times. I take it this is one of those coincidences. Is this prayer common? My spirit guide helped me write it. He shares a lot of that kind of knowledge with me, he also shows me how to cast and do certain things.

What is the Goetia? I know the Golden Dawn is like, some sort of magical order that regulates what information is published into books, I also know that Waite was a member, because I use the tarot cards he made, but not much beyond that. Care to share how you made this connection?

Just a glimpse as to what it is, i'm not entirely familiar with it but i have found some information about it. Personally i'm interested in chaos magick, Goetia refers to sorcery but is commonly associated with Soloman Magick. It's sort of like demonology but i don't really linger on that kind of magick either. It dates back to the Templar and they idolized the baphomet.
