I have a over night casino trip planned tomorrow night with my cousin we plan on swimming and of course my period had to start the last tampon I used I guess it didn't have in all the way could feel it hurt like hell when I walked and when I went to the bathroom it burned so bad so I took it out. I have a couple tampons my sister gave me last summer they are the kind that insert themselves the one I used was those ob ones that doesn't have applicator. not sure what I;m doing? why did it burn when I went to the bathroom? I want to be able to enjoy my night and not stress. I can't wear a pad in the pool. I guess I will have to try these ones and hope it goes in smoothly

Jen, it sounds like you didn't put the tampon in far enough. If the tampon is all the way in your vagina, you shouldn't feel it at all (since there are no nerve endings).

I would rec commend trying smaller tampons (usually they are called "light") for your swim time. They are smaller and easier to put in. If you are going to buy some, buy the ones with plastic applicators, because they are easier to get in without pain when you are first learning. Putting a tampon in for the first time can be tricky, and it takes a lot of girls some time to master. Eventually, it will be super easy :).

Yep, the applicator is pretty self-explanatory. You just insert it up into your vagina and push the plunger (the end part that the string comes out of). Then pull the plastic applicator out.

To make it easier to take the tampon out, try and make sure that it is full, so that way it is not dry. When you remove a dry (newer) tampon, it can burn a little bit.

Jen, stand up and put it in. Put one foot on the toilet or a stool. They go in better sometimes if you aren't all crunched down sitting.

    Lie down, even.
